Secret 6-page Proposal outlines MASSIVE SKILLS DRAFT DATABASE, 34 YRS, M/F
If you are under 35 and have one of a few hundred jobs that will be listed, and that's whats on your IRS form as your occupation--YOU WILL BE FORCED TO REGISTER FOR THE SKILLS DRAFT. MAN OR WOMAN, AGE UP TO 34!!

(Probably by May 1, 2005 if Bush is not re-defeated. Kerry has a NO-DRAFT PLAN, really a NO INVADE SYRIA/IRAN/LEBANON/SOMALIA PLAN)

-SNIP-

Flahavan said the agency has begun designing procedures for a targeted registration and draft of people with computer and language skills, in case military officials and Congress authorize it.

At present, the Selective Service is authorized to register only young men and they are not required to inform the government about any professional skills. Separately, the agency has in place a special registration system to draft health care personnel in more than 60 specialties into the military if necessary in a crisis.

Some of the skill areas where the armed forces are facing "critical shortages" include linguists and computer specialists, the agency said. Americans would then be required to regularly update the agency on their skills until they reach age 35.

Individuals proficient in more than one critical skill would list the skill in which they have the greatest degree of competency.

1. Computer skills? Tell them to go draft some of the people in India
who currently have all the jobs doing computer work. They have American jobs, maybe they can force them into the American military.

13. Really, I'm WAS a programmer ...
... does THAT count even though I've been out of my "occupation" for 3 years???? OR ... does that make me prime fodder for the draft since my skills are going "unused".

If I'm too fat, can I still be drafted???? I know I can't join the National Guard??? If I use prescription stimulants for ADD, can I still be drafted since I'm taking "speed"????

15. Sorry, there are no MEDICAL DEFERMENTS in the SKILLS or MEDICAL DRAFT!
Even if you are in a wheelchair, it's INDUCTION TIME THIS TIME.

Only essential community need is allowed as a deferment.

SO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL, DAMMIT!

2. Several HUNDRED skills?
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 06:30 PM by rocknation
And would that include "cannon fodder"? If the "special skills" draft is anything like the Patriot Act, it's a crock--The Bush Regime wants EVERYBODY because they've got BIG invasion plans.

6. How ironic--in the 1970s the ERA was defeated on the draft
For those of you too young to remember, the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution was defeated on the evil spectre of "women being drafted!!!!" (the horror, the horror) together with the "claim" that it would outlaw single sex restrooms....leading the charge was Phyllis Schlafly and the usual wingnuts (most of whom are still around).

Guess thats changed, eh GOP?

8. Good way to empty colleges of computer degree students
They just won't pursue that field anymore. Then India and other places will have to do those jobs.

People will make sure they do not have any of the critical skills.. New WalMart associates here they come...

... it's definitely not as lucrative as it used to be. In my case, lucrative means "having a job!!!!"

18. Not to be a party pooper, but
this is kinda "old news." Note the 5/1 date on the article. And I remember this got a lot of attention here when it first came out.

Nevertheless, it is an important issue and it does deserve widespread attention.

So, carry on...

Or should I say, "Kerry on." :-)
