Here's To HERB
Let's make nice with the fans of the late Herbert Hoover, whose dismal job creation record is about to be outdone by George Bush. Not since Hoover has any president failed American workers as much as Bush. So let's give a cheer for HERB.

... the book, The Herbert Hoover Story ... presents our thirty-first President as a heartless ogre, inept and callous and reactionary, who 'caused' a depression, then 'did nothing' to mitigate its horrors." However, this was not the real Hoover. Hoover was a humanitarian all of his life and always did his best to help people. Later in his life he became a great elder statesman who always put his faith in the American people. Hoover was a kind and generous man and in this time, when the Republicans are being charged with wanting to starve children and kill old people, they would be wise to resurrect the memory of one of its most compassionate and able leaders, Herbert Hoover.

Here's to HERB! He wasn't as heartless as people say he was.

1. Hoover was a decent guy
But fell into the trap of taking over Coolidge's trickle-down economy as it was about to collapse. He was in over his head.

3. Not As Heartless
Hoover wasn't as heartless as Bush. Heck, even Reagan wasn't as heartless as Bush. That's quite a trio! Hoover, Reagan and Bush.

When the poor hath cried, Caesar hath wept. Big tears!

4. I suppose compared to Ronald Reagan and George W Bush...
...Herbert Hoover should be nominated and canonized for sainthood. Except he weren't no catholic! So, I say leave old Herb on the ash heap of republican anti-heroes just joined by Ronald Reagan and when is time comes George Dubya Bush. They never have, nor ever will represent the interests of the American working class. Reagan would have have given Americans jobs either had all of the free trade loop holes for big business been in place during his administration.

"Prosperity is just around the corner", the republican mantra. Interest hikes are just around the corner, unemployment is just around the corner, longer working hours, lower pay, higher prices for the necessities and much more to keep working people struggling are just around the corner under the Republicans.

6. "We'd Like to Thank You, Herbert Hoover"
Here's the lyrics to a great number from the stage production of Annie, which, BTW, was cut out for the film as being "too political." It takes place in a shanty town...

WE'D LIKE TO THANK YOU

ALL

Today we're living in a shanty
Today we're scrounging for a meal

SOPHIE

Today I'm stealing coal for fires
Who knew i could steal?

MEN

I used to winter in the tropics

WOMEN

I spent my summers at the shore

FRED

I used to throw away the paper--

ALL

We'd like to thank you: Herbert Hoover
For really showing us the way
We'd like to thank you: Herbert Hoover
You made us what we are today

Prosperity was 'round the corner
The cozy cottage built for two
In this blue heaven
That you
Gave us
Yes!

We're turning blue!
They offered us Al Smith and Hoover
We paid attention and we chose
Not only did we pay attention
We paid through the nose.

In ev'ry pot he said "a chicken"
But Herbert Hoover he forgot
Not only don't we have the chicken
We ain't got the pot!
Hey Herbie

WOMEN

You left behind a greatful nation

ALL

So, Herb, our hats are off to you
We're up to here with admiration

SOPHIE

Come down and have a little stew

ALL

Come down and share some Christmas dinner
Be sure to bring the missus too
We got no turkey for our stuffing
We'd like to thank you, Herbert Hoover
For really showing us the way
You dirty rat, you Bureaucrat, you
Made us what we are today
Come and get it, Herb!

of his economic policies and the ensuing depression. Go figure. He always felt that a smart Republican would come along and shure enuff we got Dwight to daddy's enduring delight.
