Public Citizen just told all on their lists, that this week is a Bush push for his horrid Energy Bill, which will make blackouts likely. Contact congress NOW, as it is up for a vote THIS WEEK!
His bill wants to repeal the regulation that makes electric co's do costly maintainence - like trimming trees near big transmission lines - and that will give us more blackouts, like the northeast one last year. Treelimb cause it, final report.
Putting more power in the hands of Enron types also can lead to artificial blackouts to hike profits, like California two years back. CBS site Enron tapes -- June 1 this year -- "you want power back? MOVE, cause it aint comin back on any time soon {laughter}."
Contact both Senate and House about %%%% S.2095, Energy Policy Act of 2003. %%%%% Not 2004, oddly. Have them nix this horrid bill. It would repeal the PUHCA, Public Utility Holding Company Act --- FDR's regulation of utilities. FDR's regulation has been partly repealed, and this bill wants to execute, kill all of it.
Public Citizen {no longer run by Nader, it is independent of him} site has some details -- in its CMEP Critical Mass Energy Project page -- but also a laborious way to send emails to Congress. Pls tell Pub Citizen to get that software which lets us do two clicks only, not enter a bunch of fields each time. Their letter is also often not prefab, eating up more of our time.
Pub Citizen has ignored my pleas to get better software. TrueMajority.org {Ben of the ice cream Ben and Jerry's} has the very best software. Two clicks, and your email is off to congress. Keep your Congresscritters' addys in your address book. On this one, email TODAY, as vote is unknown time, but sometime THIS WEEK!
