Why do * supporters still support him?
I'm curious...and perplexed. I just can't figure it out. Why do you suppose that Bush supporters still support him fervently, despite all evidence to the effect that he's untrustworthy, has been either dishonest or inept in giving information to the public, etc., etc.?

I would not support a Dem. at all costs, in the face of being lied to (or worse, being misinformed because of ineptness). I would not support a Dem. Prez who spent almost half of the first eight months in office on vacation.

I've thought and thought about it, and I just don't get it. They don't just sort of support him. They are filled with hatred, almost, at those who do not support him 100%. They suffer no criticism of him at all. Do you suppose it's the tax cuts? People will put up with a lot, if you pay them. Is that it? Or is it the right wing agenda....religion at all costs? Just what is it, do you think?

3. Yep.
My non-religious dad wants to keep his taxes down and my Souther Baptist in-laws are against abortion.

Pretty sad. They are both voting against their own best interests and don't even know it.

7. I think they are driven by hatred of the left
More than their love of the right.

I was reading an article in the LA Times business section about the Mexican trucks and NAFTA, and they were speaking to a husband/wife driving team who were big supporters of Bush. They said they supported him but that he "he had no clue" about this issue. The thing is, I knew full well, come November, these 2 would still go and vote for the raging idiot.

8. I've wondered this same curiousity for the past 3&1/2 years. . .

While witnessing the intense secrecy and deceipt of this misadministration, and the sweeping consequences of their ill-conceived policies. . .the looting of our surplus, the trashing of our environment, the erosion of our integrity etc. . .well you all know.

Then about a month ago it struck me. In as much as I loathe most psychological labels. The only explanation for *'s continued support is that half the country may be suffering from Stockholm syndrome. . .wherein one is lulled into a false sense of security by their captors, abductors, and/or abusers.

I have posted this theory before but thought I'd offer it up again for consideration because it's the only way I can possibly fathom the blindness of the seemingly slumbering populous to *'s outright and blatant incompetence and thievery.

10. His base is unlikely to desert him, but....
there are a lot of folks who, having been indoctrinated into a "winner" culture (sports, etc), will go with the "winning" team.

Help Kerry tilt the balance and we have a great chance at getting our country back.

...that it's all just a sport to some of them. The Repubs are their team and they root for them over the Dems thus they can be as mindlessly and violently gung go as any fanatical sports fan. A couple years ago I rented the movie "A Perfect Candidate" about Oliver North's run for the senate. At the end, after he'd lost, his campaign manager gives a little monologue about politics and elections. I can't remember his exact words but I came away thinking that this was all just a game to this guy despite how passionately he'd fought on North's behalf.

13. Like the lady said on C-Span this morning, "he's a Christian man and
I am a Christian. He's against abortion, and he's helping the Iraqi people". End of simplistic, superficial thought. There is nothing else in her empty head. And no doubt any argument or evidence to the contrary would simply be blocked by "he's a christian and I'm a christian". The end.

14. #1 Reason: The media
Then of course the denial, religion, basic ignorance of the rest of the world.

Nonetheless, the number one reason is the Media. In fact the other reasons can be based on the misinformation and propaganda through the media. For years and years.

Just my opinion.

15. Why did Hitler's supporters continue to support HIM?
The answers are one and the same.

Purposeful propagandaand lots of it.

Propaganda designed to "innoculate" the listener against any facts which DO NOT come from THE PARTY SUB-MEDIA.

Propaganda designed, like the Nazis bfeore them, to paint brutal agressors as whiny victims (so that they will have the strength to continue their brutal oppressions).

Propaganda designed to eradicate every last shred of Critical Thinking Skills in the listener, the easier to control and manipulate.

At it's core, legitimate left vs. right concerns, subsumed in the Lie of the Empire.

18. Ignorance
They get their news from crappy biased sources, so they think Al-Qaeda and Saddam were best friends, the Iraq war is going splendidly, and Bush is not insane.
