2. Is there time to get another Senate candidate on the ballot?
And if not, what would be the point of him resigning?

3. Has the Legislature worked something out?
Having Romney appoint someone would not be entertaining. I believe the leg. was trying to figure out a way to call a special election?

6. This is just stupid...
When a Republican politician is campaigning, it's A-OK (John McCain running for president), but Kerry should quit. This is just another case of Republicans calling foul when their own do the same thing. If Kerry loses and we're subjected to another 4 years of Kellogg, Root, and Shrub rule, I want John Kerry in the senate as a voice of dissatisfaction at how poorly this country is being run.

11. You got that right.
I was about to say "how in hell did he get elected in Mass?", but then I remembered that POS we have in California.

9. let Healy spew this crap... it makes the Republicans
look like sore losers. "Resign if you are running... its not fair that you are very busy with taking back the white house." The public will see this farce and backlash at the Republicans for trying to slip a GOPer into the Senate. Which is more undemocratic, an fairly elected Senator trying to bring leadership back to the White House or an Republican-appointed politician serving for a year in a half without one vote from the people of Massachusetts. Let him and the other Republicans whine, it will just help Kerry more and more.

10. What are the mechanics for replacing him if he does resign?
Special election or appointment? If it's an election I think he SHOULD resign. Otherwise, unless the legislature has a surefire way of preventing an appointment should he win in November, it would be the best chance of keeping the seat.
