How does Jeb know who is african american?
Hi all,

I was reading an article about Jeb et al trying to get african americans off the voting rolls in FL.

I am wondering - how do they know who is what race in florida? Do they require you to put race down when you register to vote?

If so - wouldn't that be illegal? I can't imagine any valid reason to ask for such information when registering to vote...

4. Ninety-seven thousand legally registered African-Americans were
Edited on Tue Jun-15-04 07:22 PM by Zinfandel
illegally purged from the voting rolls, (as "possible" felons) in Florida and were not allow to vote, (more than 90% registered democrats.) 97,000 plus!!!

And how much did they say Bush won by 547 votes in Florida, before the Supreme Court, overstepped their bounds and stopped the vote counting?

3. indicating your race is "optional" on the voter registration application
but the question is asked and many people answer without knowing it is optional.

Other state information, like drivers' license information certainly includes race. I don't know exactly what info is available to firms who do the felon match, but I assume it would be as much as possible. Ostensibly, that would be so that the state was as sure as it could be that the stricken felon was actually the right person. In practice, we know that's not how any data that is available is used.

6. This company Choice Point or DBT or whatever it is calling
itself right now basically culls all public information data bases to get the information. The state of Fl dept of children and families also uses this company to run an 'information check' on people applying for assistance. It checks property tax rolls, criminal data bases, etc. There is a lot of information in the public domain and on data bases. this company got its start in Texas

8. But it is not optional on driver's licenses
And it's very easy to compare voter cards to driver licenses.
