There is a significant number of people on the left, and in the Democratic Party, who sincerely want this country to lose the war in Iraq. Their short term interests are apparently aligned with many of those one billion unconvertible Muslims whose goal in life, and death, is the utter destruction of the United States of America.
Iraq has been central to the war on terrorism since before 9/11 and the left refuses to see this. Forget stockpiles of WMD for a moment and just consider the intent of Saddam and his strategic position in the Middle East. So, defeat for Bush is more important than victory for America.
