Got A Fundi At Work And Need Help With Debka.com
as i am at work and actually "working".

one of our coworkers (good lib) sent an email to me and the fundi regarding the 9/11 report stating no link between Iraq/Al Qaeda and how that was significant.

fundi comes back with "our linear" thinking, all that is going on in the region and where the U.S. wants to be in 5 years.

with this link: http://www.debka.com/index.php

i have already given him the PNAC stuff but he keep coming back with Debka. i dont have time to read it right now (will when i get home) but any great thoughts?

1. DEBKA is widely known as crap 95% of the time
However, I don't know how to prove it. I know it's the official news outlet of the Mossad, though.

2. They definitely have their biases
and they have no qualms about spreading misinformation. Some think they are linked to the Mossad, or are at least a mouthpiece for them when needed.

With that in mind, sometimes they are right but most of the time they are just flat out wrong.

3. ask him to get you a real source, not a conspiracy site
like BBC, or Haaretz, or anything really that has some credibility. Debka simply doesn't. It's trash. I have personally caught them in many many lies. Here's a source: CNN: NO COOPERATION BETWEEN IRAQ AND ALQAEDA!!!!! Didn't he read that today? Him and his dittohead friends are just going to have to eat asshat on this one, that's all.

5. "Linear thinking"?
As opposed to what? Warped, convoluted thinking? Apparently that's what he's advocating (being a fundy, that does make sense for him).

7. just laugh at him.
I'm sorry, there are some people that just can't be helped. But you don't have to indulge his fantasies. Don't worry, he'll have plenty of company on whatever planet he's living on.

9. Right.. "Linear Thinking"
That's a good one. Because it seems pretty friggin' straightforward to me... The 9-11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. The Family Saud has been financing extremist madrassas and producing radical Islamic kooks for years. The Family Saud has also been implicated in direct financing of Al Qaeda.. The Bush Family and The Family Saud are old, old business buddies... The Bush Family and The Bin Laden Family are old, old business buddies.. Al Qaeda got it's start in the 1980s in Afghanistan as part of a CIA Operation under Reagan...

I agree, you would have to be addled with a serious case of "linear thinking" to add all that up and not come out with--- we MUST INVADE IRAQ!

Oh, yeah, also-

Al Qaeda: religious extremists who hate women, gays, secularism and science, and are 'hell-bent' on imposing their religious will on the population at large.
the GOP: religious extremists who hate women, gays, secularism and science, and are 'hell-bent' on imposing their religious will on the population at large.
Iraq: A secular dictatorship.

Sure sounds like cause to invade Iraq to me!

11. Fundies vs Moonies

The right has become more and more like the Moonies. The fact that they take so much money from the good Reverend is probably indicative of his influence on the fundamentalist techniques.

6. Debka said the Chinese had troops in Afghanistan helping the Taliban
Do they believe that whopper too?

Pick any story from debka, wait 30 days, then look back at it. 90% of the time, the allegations that seemed 'almost possible' a month ago now seem ridiculous. Debka's stories have a VERY short shelf life.

8. UPDATE!!! FUNDI JUSTIFIES USE OF DEBKA
fundie's email back to me re: Debka

"I can appreciate that but I need the Mossad to do the journalistic dirty work the US seems to be so bad at. "

:argh:

13. Hehe
I wish I had an audio clip of that recording that Jeanine Garofalo plays of Rev. Moon on her show. He sounds like a raving lunatic.

Speaking of audio clips, there are also ones of Bush and Powell admitting there is no connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda.

Powell Admits No Hard Proof in Linking Iraq to Al Qaeda
by Christopher Marquis

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Colin L. Powell conceded Thursday that despite his assertions to the United Nations last year, he had no "smoking gun" proof of a link between the government of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and terrorists of Al Qaeda.

16. Debka runs really interesting stories you never read elsewhere
Mostly about national security/military/intelligence. The only problem is, their scoops are always either wrong or inconsequential.

They have some kind of relationship with Israeli intelligence/military.

That's about all I know about them. I don't read them because nothing they report ever turns out to be true or significant.
