I kicked Rupert Murdoch to the curb today!
I disconnected my Directv today and switched from Sat Internet to cable about a month ago. Mostly for non political reasons but still it was a sweet thought that I wont be sending him my money every month.

1. Hi Andy....I switched to DishNet in April for the same reason.
I refuse to pay money to anything that I know benefits Murdoch.

3. But TiVo!!!!
DirectTV has TiVo and comcast (my local cable monopoly) has their crappy PVR.

Personally our choices are limited and that bothers me to no end.

BTW how come I only get 6 HDTV channels????

10. Run MythTV
It's free, public domain software which does everything TIVO can do
and a lot more. You can run it as a server and access it from all
over the house if you have a wireless network. You can also set it
up so that you can control it remotely with a web interface.
Make as many simultaneous recordings as you have tuner cards.

I'm upgrading mine to HDTV today, now that my HD tuner card arrived in the mail.

"Free" means no subscription fees for program data either.

9. TiVo vs Dish PVR review here
TiVo Will Die

(also DirectTV dumped the TiVo contract recently.)

I chose Dish because of FSTV and like the service for other reasons, including the recorder. They recently added about 60 Sirius music (only) channels, some of which are excellent, to the "Top 120" (actually many more) service.

5. Direct TV isn't owned by Murdock....is it?
I was under the understanding that Direct TV and its parent company Hughes were bought by General Motors Corp. earlier this year??
