Isn't it about time we at DU recognized real patriots?Off hand
I can think of Senator Byrd, Senator Kennedy,Sy Hersh, Paul Krugman,Jimmy Breslin.I urge all of you to jump in to add to my very incomplete list. When we are finished, I am hoping that we can all send a common thank you note to these patriots on behalf of all of us.I woulld certainly want to add the names of all the soldiers who have died in the evil enterprise in Iraq and those who have died in the WTC collapse.Just as important would be to include the Iraqi mothers and children who have been tortured at Abu Ghraib.

Please do your part.I would like us to be able to present our thank you note to President-to-be John Kerry.

3. With regard to Senator Byrd,
I like him as a senator, but someone told me he used to have ties to the KKK??????????? Is this true?????? I would be very disappointed.

5. He was in the KKK
And left. He regretted it, and gave several apologies.
Draw your own conclusions.

10. Well, he certainly does not behave like a KKKer,
so I guess I can accept his apologies....he must have grown up in an evil environment and I am glad to see that he overcame it.

18. Robert Byrd was in the KKK in his youth
I believe he was in his early 20s when he joined.

He wised up real quick and traded his sheets for military service, law school, and then public service.

And yeah, he was pro-segregation for a while. He wised up about that, too, and has worked diligently to reverse the damage he was party to.

I have a special place in my heart for people who get their heads out of their patoots and walk the high road. Robert Byrd is one of those people.

He's really coming down on Bushco. He might be the one to get the indictments in the bag. I'm going to send him a valentine. Love him.

11. The only reason I wanted to use the term Patriots was to
forestall our opponents from wrapping themselves in the flag and claim we are all America bashers.

13. Generally - aristocrats
I am not going to call them "The heroes" of America - I will thank them as good citizens with about 68% of their votes. - but they are owned.

I bet nobody who regularly posts here has lead a life any closer to these people than they have the King of Sweden.

Vote- Yes
Fawn - No

21. The Rockers
John Mellencamp.

Willie Nelson.

Jon Bon Jovi. He just raised a million dollars, a couple of days ago, for John Kerry. He's also fast becoming one of the leading community activists and philanthropists in the Philadelphia area and South Jersey.

Speaking of which, Bruce Springsteen.

Michael Stipe. He co-produced Saved! Which means that Mandy Moore also fits into this group.

There's a whole bunch of "alternative Country" musicians, too, like Steve Earl, Lucinda Williams, and Slaid Cleeves who are politically aware, astute, and active.

Bono. Not an American, but an inspiration. Bono for Secretary General of the UN!

I'm sure I missed some. Many. But these are a start.

That's an all-white group.

I don't know about too many of the African-American musicians and what they're doing.

Could somebody "drop some Science" on us about it?

Thanks!
