DU this poll!
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 12:16 AM by iconoclastic cat
From the ABCnews Note blog (a total Bush lapdog site):
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html
(snip)
If The Note's highly scientific cookie-polling is any indication, Bush should just barely squeak by his challenger . . . "either one."

Family Circle's quadrennial cookie election, this year pitting Laura Bush's "Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies" against Teresa Heinz Kerry's "Pumpkin Spice Cookies," has correctly predicted the winner in the last three presidential elections.

Voters can log onto the magazine's Web site and cast their vote by Aug. 1. http://www.familycircle.com

Just over half our Googling Monkeys picked the incumbent cookie and the rest were just happy we let them eat. Look for the full results from Family Circle on Oct. 19.

(snip)

DUers: Go to http://www.familycircle.com/

Look on the left side of the page, where it says, Which cookie would you bring to a party? Bake both and then vote.
Click here for recipes and voting.

Warning: I had to use Internet Explorer; Netscape blocked it, but I don't know why.

7. The Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk
recipe is a bit strange. Chopped dried sour cherries?

I wonder if Laura has every actually made these. I think the dough would be somewhat dry and crumbly, and the cookies would tend to fall apart.

Teresa Heinz Kerry's cookies are of a totally different tradition. Note there's only one cup of sugar in it to one cup butter. They wouldn't be anywhere near as sweet as the usual cookies, and would have quite an interesting flavor. Personally, I don't like raisins in cookies, so I won't be making these, either.

Go to post 23 here to read my incredible chocolate chip cookie recipe. I'm completely immodest about them.

8. Actually, my wife makes the Chocolate Chunk cookies. They're awesome.

I eat so many at once that I nearly lose them.
But Laura and George make me dry retch on sight.
I'll eat their damned cookies. But I won't support their stupid theocracy.

11. What do they taste like?
What do the cherries do to the texture and taste? I do not like what baking does to raisins both in texture and flavor -- the weird chewiness is quite off-putting to me, and I suspect that the cherries would be the same. Of course, lots of people love raisins in cookies.

I also have a recipe for cowboy cookies which is sort of a cross between oatmeal and chocolate chip, but my sons don't care for them so I rarely make them. It's not just a chocolate chip recipe with oatmeal added, nor an oatmeal recipe with chips added, but one with totally different proportions.

13. Well, if you don't like chewy bits in a cookie, then you may
not like the Chocolate Chunk cookies. The cherries and raisins make the cookies less crumbly, and you usually end up biting off larger chunks. The fruity elements really bring out the chocolate, too.

I also recommend cranberries in oatmeal cookies!

12. It's a silly contest, with no real bearing
I guess it started in '92, after Hillary's controversial 'bake cookies' statement.

Three elections? Not much of a track record.

BTW: I voted for the pumpkin spice, though the oatmeal chocolate sounds tastier.

the glass of milke (wholesome) VS the lemon in a teacup (something's that bad)

Nice subliminal touch there.
