9/11 Commission Hearings on NOW - Are you listening? NORAD today.
This is chilling. They are playing tapes from air traffic controllers and military.

5. Wow...
.... what I've heard so far paints a picture of overloaded controllers, total lack of communication between one cell and another and between the FAA and the military, a system totally ill-equipped to deal with more than one errant plane at a time and a series of errors and bad assumptions.

It can all be excused on some level because the people involved clearly had not been apprised of the cacaphony of warnings that the government had received about hijackings.

I've deleted further commentary. It is just too depressing :(

"... until he was able to gather more information."

Well, how in the hell do you gather more information while you're sitting in a classroom reading a Pet Goat book to children?

Michael Moore's movie will be a real eye-opener to most people, when it comes to the issue of "presidential leadership" on 9/11.

I heard yesterday from a source that Bush not only kept sitting there during the goat story, but hung around afterward EVEN AFTER THE PRESS RAN OUT OF THERE BECAUSE ALL THEIR BEEPERS AND PHONES WERE GOING CRAZY!

The media, the inept media had their hair on fire, but the Commander in Chief hung around talking before getting back in the limo. No urgency at all.

Why?

One conversation they spoke about between Bush* and Cheney, they have no record of, and no corroboration.

Did anyone notice the family member laughing when they read about Bush* in the school?

General Myers sure was smoozing with the panel before the hearing began. I'm having a hard time listening to him.

I think they are going to pin everything on the FAA and NORAD.

They seemed to make a big deal out of how the FAA wasn't a part of their teleconference until after 10:30am. Well, damn! If the FAA didn't get through to them, why in the hell didn't the the major players get in touch with them? This makes no sense to me.

29. also trying this defense
I was in Washington that day, as you know I just an adviser to the military (not in the loop) and heard about the planes after the crashed.
However Richard Ben-Veniste called a few Generals a liar because they claimed they were not aware of any tapes of a phone conversation. (all FAA phones are taped)
Then the Generals found the tapes and claimed they couldn't play but the commission got an outside agency to clean up the tape and lo and behold, it played. I wonder what it has on it.

38. These war games?
The ones that were "coincidentally" occurring even as real aircraft were being hijacked and slammed into buildings?

“I have an on-the-record statement from someone in NORAD that on the day of 9/11 The Joint Chiefs of Staff (Richard B. Myers) and NORAD were conducting a joint, live-fly, hijack Field Training Exercise (FTX) which involved at least one (and almost certainly many more) aircraft under US control that was posing as a hijacked airliner”.
Mike Ruppert – June 5, 2004, editor of FTW www.fromthewilderness.com

On September 11, 2001, Richard B. Meyers, the acting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has thus far claimed he was in a meeting with Senator Max Cleland, and was “unaware” of the ongoing 9/11 attacks until after the Pentagon was struck.

<snip>

On September 11, 2001, the Air Force was in its second day of annual wargame drills, titled VIGILANT GUARDIAN, designed to test national air response systems, which incidentally involved hijacking scenarios. In addition the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) which is staffed by military and CIA personnel, and is in charge of most American spy satellites, was running a drill for the scenario of an errant aircraft crashing into its headquarters. NRO headquarters also happens to be located just four miles from Washington’s Dulles airport – where Flight 77 (the flight said to have hit the Pentagon) originated...

<snip>

It is possible that Phillip Zelikow, the executive director of the 9/11 Commission, has classified certain wargames running on 9/11 so the Commission can’t address them publicly. The fact that the war games are open source, having been reported in mainstream publications including the Associated Press, UPI, and Aviation Weekly Magazine would make such a classification part & parcel to a cover-up. Hopefully the Commission will address, in public hearing, the impact these wargames apparently had on the NORAD response on 9/11.

The person on tha pannel said "when I was counsel for the department of defense, we never would have interpreted the p.c. as saying that you shouldn't play defense within America. It's just says you can't arrest people in American."

The general said, "well, let's leave that to the lawyers. I'm sure there are a plethora of opinions on that."

The generals are complaining they didn't have enough money to keep jets on alert because we needed money for Kosovo and other "hot spots."

The generals they are questioning now sound like shills for Bush trying to blame everything on the 90's and we know who was President then. Butt covering.

And I thought, "Right. And how many years did we keep a fleet of B-52s in the air 24-hours a day fully loaded with atomic bombs to deter the Soviet Union from even remotely considering an attack on the US???" And all this going on during the Vietnam War???

37. Yep ...
Sat in my car in my work parking lot for nearly 20 minutes because I couldn't tear myself away.

There were a lot of mistakes made that morning, but it is hard to put blame anywhere. It is easy to see how it may have taken a relatively long period of time to identify the seriousness of the attack. The confusion created by such a time coordinated attack was overwhelming.

It was heartbreaking to hear some of the conversations, realizing these people didn't realize the magnitude of what was going on.

Cheers

e-mails and information that this Admin thought they'd Deep Sixed and many of the questions are showing that they have evidence that some of the generals have perjured themselves.

I think we will get more information out of these hearings than we would have if the 9/11 Wives and others out on the Internet hadn't pushed and pushed and done their own investigation. It's hard for them to ignore all the evidence, and even to spin it too far when there's so much information out there that's been discovered that the Chimp & Co. couldn't control. 58. This is such horseshit, no worse
At least horseshit is great fertilizer!

The Warren. . .oop, 'scuse me...911 commission is trying to blame this on the air traffic controllers, painting them as incompetent and confused. The thing is is that the air traffic controllers ARE NOT responsible for air defense in North America, NORAD is! NORAD has a nice little place out in Kansas where they recieve live real time feeds of every air traffic controller in the US at the flip of a switch. They are the ones who knew this was going and yet didn't send up the birds UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE! This violates a Standing Order that is fifty plus years old.

This is more CYA and distraction from the 911 commission. Of course the air traffic controllers were confused, but they weren't making the decisions, that was up to the big boys at NORAD and DC. These planes were reported hijacked for forty five minutes before the first one slammed into the WTC. Plenty of time to have fighter jets up and in range, yet they were no where to be seen until it was too late. This is the smoking gun, and the purpose of the 911 commission is to obfuscate and confuse people so that this salient point is covered up.
