DU Wing Nut Web Site Trying To Stop "Fahrenheit 9/11"
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 08:10 AM by BJ
A group of crazed, well financed reactionaries are trying to intimidate national and regional motion picture theater chains from showing Michael Moore's award winning Fahrenheit 9/11.

The Web site, "Stop Michael Moore" has the e-mail addresses for executives of some of the top movie theater chains' in the country.

I just used their own information to write and send the following e-mail:
Please don't be swayed by pressure from groups with a political agenda. Let the market place guide your decision to show Michael Moore's award-winning documentary
Fahrenheit 9/11.

Let's use their tactic to inform the movie theater industry that there is a market for Fahrenheit 9/11 and that people want to see it.

1. All the while, F-911 will be seen in a patchwork...
...of independent theaters across the country. Every day or so, more and more of them are added to the list. Just today, I am informed that it will be showing in Utica, New York, population 65,000, so Moore's film is steadily infiltrating the nooks and crannies of America, despite the best efforts of wingnut groups with Orwellian names like Move America Forward.

4. This is true.
It's slated to show in an "art house" in my small Midwestern city too. However, the theater is located but three blocks from what is considered, for around here at least, a "ghetto" (I delivered mail there years ago and it's mostly African-American, Latino, White with a liberal sprinkling of political refugees from around the world. This is scary stuff for kids fresh off the farm.)

Anyway, the reactionaries are trying to keep Moore's film from where it can, in their estimation, do the most damage: Suburban multiplexes.

2. Here's the email I sent a couple of days ago
This went out to the list of theatres that have not made a decision:

It's not often that a business has a chance to promote free speech and make money at the same time. I understand from the moveramericaforward.org site that you have not made a decision on whether or not to show the referenced movie. I also understand that visitors to their site are asked to inundate you with email and faxes asking you not to show this movie. I plead with you to show it. It's up to each individual to judge the movie for themselves, but to not have the opportunity to do so would be an injustice.

Sincerely,

3. I agree
Let's use the market, and show disney that they made a major business mistake. I intend to see the movie three times, in three different theaters.

5. I got spam-filter blowback when I tried to email my support,
so I'm going snail-mail and sending real paper letters! It's been a while since I've done that...

7. Really, I hope these neo con Bushita continue this
Just keep pumping up the hype, pushing the contraversy onto the front pages and lead stories nationwide. Just means that many more millions of people will become curious about the film and go see it. Don't these fools know when to let sleeping dogs lie?
