The military's pledge of allegiance is to the president now?
has anyone heard this?

Some guy told my mom yesterday he got out of the Navy reserves because when they say the pledge now it is to the president not the flag.

Has anyone heard this before? or was this guy just using this as a way to say that's what has happened to the military - that they're expecting to do what dumbass wants before the constitution etc.. I'm guessing that's what he meant, but my mom didn't get the point.

my 80 year old mom was pissed let me tell ya

1. That would be totally nuts
I mean considering what the pledge of allience has just been through (no matter what side of the issue you are on), why would President Bush want a story getting out that he had changed the pledge. I mean the stories just write themselves don't they?

2. So this is the way the military will do the " Pledge of Allegiance"?
I haven't heard about it until now, ------

I Pledge Allegiance to the President of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

6. Highly doubtful.
If true, it would be a major, major deal. Hitler did this to the German Army to cement his control.

8. The military has never "pledged allegiance to the flag". . .
upon induction, the oath is to the Constitution, and to the chain of command as supported by the law.

The Military Oath

The following oath is taken by all personnel inducted into the armed forces of the United States, as found in the US Code, Section 502.

I, _________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I'd say someone's trying to generate a hoax.

9. I don't think he meant it to be a hoax.. my mom wasn't sure if..
he was saying that as a truth or as how he perceived the military's loyalty to dumbass..
