4. the point is that the man is identified as a US SOLDIER.
He's not. He's a private contractor.

6. I think his T-Shirt reads: "I support Bush," made in Burma.
I still don't get your outrage over this? It's all going perfectly fine, move along you free thinker, nothing to see here.

7. The soldier farthest right, t-shirt, looks like has a designer label on
sleeve.

The two in question have different t-shirt colors. I've never seen our troops wear short sleeves. Wouldn't that be a violation?

3. "US SOLDIER" wearing jeans and a t-shirt?
His helmet is wrong, too. That is a private contractor.. either that or military discipline is completely lost over there. I doubt we allow our soldiers to make "Casual Friday" fashion statements. NO.. he's a private gun working along side our military. Except HE's making 1k a day, tax-free, and ours (especially if they're the Guard) hope to have their medical expenses paid after the fact. Disgusting.

8. Check out the boots . . .
. . . it looks like they're transitioning into the new universal 'one world army' uniform that was just announced.

"Soldiers also will get a new, no-shine, tan combat boot, and the current black boots will be discontinued."

9. Just saw that shot on the Wash Post.
My first reaction was "how come he's wearing Civvies under that vest?"

I had two thoughts

1) He's actually the "hired help", or

2) Things have deteriorated so quickly that the soldiers are doing whatever they feel they need to do to cope, including what they want to wear.

10. It looks like the new Army uniform pants.
Edited on Thu Jun-17-04 12:26 PM by toiletbush
The Army sent some of these unform to soldiers in Iraq to be tested.
If he was wearing the shirt it would look more like a real uniform rather than street clothes. The helmet doesn't look right either, either a new type of Kevlar or this is a contractor.

Update: if you look at the Washington Post site the pictures show several different uniforms, looks like Iraqi security forces are mixed in.

12. looks like they are trying to tell us they are being threatened
"A U.S. soldier secures the site of the apparent suicide bombing in Baghdad" reads the caption, of the "soldier" with his gun pointed at the camera! as others look in the same direction, all looking very much like they don't much appreciate the camera being there.

and it's easy for them to reason that the killed were civilians, it was only a security forces recruitment center, thus the people waiting in line were only "civilians trying to get to work" because they were not YET members of the security force.

14. Definitely looks non-official military.
Enlarged photo clearly shows the guy in the foreground with a straight legged type of jean, with low ankle shoes with some type of rubber soles.
