White House Briefing June 17...........Check this out..
has found.

MR. McCLELLAN: And if you look back at what we said, we said that -- we said all along that Saddam Hussein's regime supported and harbored terrorists, and that there were ties to terrorism -- including al Qaeda. And if you go back and look at what was outlined before the United Nations -- Secretary Powell goes to talk about how there was support for suicide bombers in the Middle East who sought to undermine the peace process, who sought to undermine the road map.

Q: But, Scott, you're trying to make such a technical --

MR. McCLELLAN: Director Tenet --

Q: -- argument, cherry-picking what you want to see.

Q: Not Iraq.

Q: And not only that, this President has said that he thought that Saddam Hussein would like to use al Qaeda as a forward army, as one of his forward armies. The 9/11 Commission is saying, contacts a relationship don't make.

MR. McCLELLAN: David, you're just ignoring the facts. You're not looking at what Director Tenet said. You're not looking at what Secretary Powell said before the United Nations.

Q: Scott, do you really think people buy this?

MR. McCLELLAN: And I think that you can seek to drive a wedge, but there is no wedge there between what the September 11th Commission said and what the facts --

Q: Between what the facts are and what the reality is.

MR. McCLELLAN: -- and what the facts are. You're talking about impressions; I'm talking about facts.

Q: No, I'm also talking about facts. The President said he thinks that al Qaeda would like to be a forward -- that Saddam wanted to use al Qaeda as a forward army -- his words from, I believe, October 2002 at a Michigan rally.

This commission has said after its own investigation, and you were the ones who set up the commission, that there was no collaborative relationship. So the conclusion -- the question and conclusion seems to be that administration overstated the evidence that exists.

2. and from that Prick Les:
Q: Scott, the AP reports from Little Rock that Bill Clinton attended the world premier of the documentary The Hunting of The President, a film "claiming to expose the 10-year campaign to destroy Bill Clinton." The Washington Post this morning quotes Clinton as saying, his fight against impeachment was, "a badge of honor." And my question -- the first part of two -- how could President Bush possibly reconcile his promise to restore honor to the White House with his salute on Monday of this same convicted perjurer whose dishonesty under oath required the restoration of honor promised by Governor Bush?

MR. McCLELLAN: Les, first of all, the unveiling of the presidential portraits is a tradition that dates back quite some time. And the President was pleased to welcome the Clintons back to the White House and participate in that unveiling ceremony. I think you heard from him directly. In terms of these other issues, I think you might want to address them to President Clinton.

15. Maybe that's it ...
The real reporters are escaping one by one and taking their places in society again, destroying the pod people who have assumed their identities. Yeah, that's it, and they can't release the story until all have escaped or the pods will figure out that they have found a way to escape.

7. slam
Q: Scott, how much of a political problem is it for the President leading into a reelection campaign that one rationale after another for going to war in Iraq seems to be vanishing in terms of credibility?

snip

MR. McCLELLAN: I think the American people recognize that we are better off with Saddam Hussein removed from power. I think the American people recognize that the decision the President made was the right one because it was based on making the world a safer and better place, and based on making America more secure. Saddam Hussein was a threat.

Q: That's not true.

11. Talk about the definition of what "is" is.
The repukes used to rag on Clinton about parsing words--about him saying "that depends on what the meaning of 'is' is." (Which in reality Clinton was trying to get the questioner to distinguish between "is" (currently) and something that "was" (had already happened).

But I digress.

This is far worse than "what the meaning of 'is' is."

We went to effing WAR based on these lies, misstatements, and sliminess.

13. Read through the whole thing...who the F*CK is 'Les' and 'Steve'?
I agree that these two are obviously RW plants, but do we know who these people are and who they write for?

It is amazing that McClellan could continue to give the same bullsh*t responses over and over again and maintain a straight face (I assume it was straight) -- man, it had to be murder trying to find a way to spin THAT crap up.

But yeah, it seems the WH press corps has finally decided to show up and/or grow a brass pair -- McClellan was pathetic.

I think I need to read more of these...

It is like these idiots go to lobotomy skool and forget about making the question direct and to the point.

NNNNNOOOOOO, I gotsa to show how smart I be, and pontificate for no less than 23 seconds, then ask four unrelated, unanswerable, wide-open questions, not connected to my little lovely, -oh so smartie-speach, and ask a follow-up in the same DAMNED question before an answer is ever given!!!!!!!!!!

ANYONE HAVE AN EXTRA BRICK TO SWING UPSIDE THEIR fetid, festering, foul, rotting, leaky stump, pretending to act as a brain?

17. I've seen a few
QUESTION: Mr. President, before the war, you and members of your administration made several claims about Iraq: that U.S. troops would be greeted as liberators with sweets and flowers; that Iraqi oil revenue would pay for most of the reconstruction; and that Iraq not only had weapons of mass destruction but, as Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld said, we know where they are. How do you explain to Americans how you got that so wrong? And how do you answer your opponents who say that you took this nation to war on the basis of what have turned out to be a series of false premises?

GWB: Well, let me step back and review my thinking prior to going into Iraq. First, the lesson of September the 11th is that when this nation sees a threat, a gathering threat, we got to deal with it. We can no longer hope that oceans protect us from harm. Every threat we must take seriously. Saddam Hussein was a threat. He was a threat because he had used weapons of mass destruction on his own people. He was a threat because he coddled terrorists. He was a threat because he funded suiciders. He was a threat to the region. He was a threat to the United States.

And we've been there a year. I know that seems like a long time. It seems like a long time to the loved ones whose troops have been overseas. But when you think about where the country has come from, it's a relatively short period of time. And we're making progress. There's no question it's been a tough, tough series of weeks for the American people. It's been really tough for the families. I understand that. It's been tough on this administration. But we're doing the right thing. And as to whether or not I made decisions based upon polls, I don't. I just don't make decisions that way. I fully understand the consequences of what we're doing. We're changing the world, and the world will be better off and America will be more secure as a result of the actions we're taking.

QUESTION: Mr. President, why are you and the vice president insisting on appearing together before the 9-11 commission? And, Mr. President, who will we be handing the Iraqi government over to on June 30th?

GWB: We'll find that out soon. That's what Mr. Brahimi is doing. He's figuring out the nature of the entity we'll be handing sovereignty over. And, secondly, because the 9-11 commission wants to ask us questions, that's why we're meeting. And I look forward to meeting with them and answering their questions.

FOLLOW-UP: I was asking why you're appearing together, rather than separately, which was their request.

GWB: Because it's a good chance for both of us to answer questions that the 9-11 commission is looking forward to asking us. And I'm looking forward to answering them

QUESTION: In the last campaign, you were asked a question about the biggest mistake you'd made in your life, and you used to like to joke that it was trading Sammy Sosa. You've looked back before 9-11 for what mistakes might have been made. After 9-11, what would your biggest mistake be, would you say, and what lessons have learned from it?

GWB: I wish you'd have given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it. John, I'm sure historians will look back and say, gosh, he could've done it better this way or that way. You know, I just -- I'm sure something will pop into my head here in the midst of this press conference, with all the pressure of trying to come up with answer, but it hadn't yet. I would've gone into Afghanistan the way we went into Afghanistan. Even knowing what I know today about the stockpiles of weapons, I still would've called upon the world to deal with Saddam Hussein. See, I'm of the belief that we'll find out the truth on the weapons. That's why we sent up the independent commission. I look forward to hearing the truth as to exactly where they are. They could still be there. They could be hidden, like the 50 tons of mustard gas in a turkey farm.

One of the things that Charlie Duelfer talked about was that he was surprised of the level of intimidation he found amongst people who should know about weapons and their fear of talking about them because they don't want to be killed. You know, there's this kind of -- there's a terror still in the soul of some of the people in Iraq. They're worried about getting killed, and therefore they're not going to talk. But it'll all settle out, John. We'll find out the truth about the weapons at some point in time. However, the fact that he had the capacity to make them bothers me today just like it would have bothered me then. He's a dangerous man. He's a man who actually not only had weapons of mass destruction -- the reason I can say that with certainty is because he used them. And I have no doubt in my mind that he would like to have inflicted harm, or paid people to inflict harm, or trained people to inflict harm, on America, because he hated us. I hope -- I don't want to sound like I have made no mistakes. I'm confident I have. I just haven't -- you just put me under the spot here, and maybe I'm not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one.

25. So how does Les Kinsolving get in the door every time?
That moron is just one of the gaggle of rw talk show megaphones.

What gives him the clout to be recognized to ask those stupid and 'entertaining' questions at almost every briefing, when Russ Mokhiber hasn't been recognized by McClellan since March 9?

Is Mokhiber even allowed to attend briefings anymore?

and a slap in our collective face.

24. Do d'a name Josef Goebbels strike a familiar note??
I must admit that I didn't have the opportunity of viewing the press conference today by Scott McClellan, but, I did read the transcripts as were referred by the link posted by "bluedog".

I have never in 54 years of life heard such avoidance of responding to questions posed by the "press corps" as I have just read. I don't even care to go back and count the number times that Scott mentioned the word "facts", but, would never specifically mention what the "facts" were, or, are!

This was not a press conference from the United States President's primary source of information to the American people to assist in clarifying serious concerns regarding the tragedy of 9/11, or, our unprovoked and "undeclared" war upon Iraq, it was merely a propagandist constantly attempting to assure us that this administration did the right thing because Saddam Hussein is a bad guy. He certainly made it quite clear that he was not desiring to offer any "SPECIFIC" facts to support any of the propaganda he continually spewed out!!
