Rumsfeld theory - Am I Crazy???
I have a theory about Donald Rumsfeld.

I think he may very well be the one holding the cards. Think about it, there are so many reasons that Bush*-Cheney could have scapegoated Rumsfeld and made a high profile position change. More than enough reasons, but - he stays. Why? Could it be that Rumsfeld knows too much?

I know that Rumsfeld is not exactly thought of fondly around here and for good reasons, but, I went to a town hall meeting and spoke with Maxine Waters. I respect her a lot and she really surprised me when I mentioned Rumsfeld. She put her finger up and interrupted me and said that she doesn't care for Rumsfeld, of course, but respects him more than maybe anyone else in the administration. I was shocked. She said she wasn't apologizing for the man, but that she respected the fact that he conducts his own press conferences and takes the heat "like a man unlike others we know all too well." I have thought about that ever since. I thought of it again today when he was getting a grilling about the prisoner being off the record during the Red Cross visits. He never tried to leave early and stood there and took it. Naturally, I thought of Maxine's comment. Also, what if the 9-11 commission is right and Bush* and Cheney *did* "go around" Rumsfeld on the shootdown orders and left him out of the loop. I remember the reporters being in shock at seeing an emotional Rumsfeld digging around in the fires of the Pentagon.

I don't know, something tells me that he is still there because he holds cards that trump a firing by Bush* and an easy out as a scapegoat. He may very well know too much. He also seems like a guy you wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of. Thus, all the praise all the time from *Bush.

Am I crazy? This is my first actual post that isn't a reply, so go easy on me. Is my tinfoil too much with this? Watching him today and remembering her saying that has added to my thinking on this which has been buzzing around for a few weeks.

4. Was it Reagan or Bush 1 who sent him to make nice with Saddam?
And if it was Reagan, we all know it wasn't really Reagan.

That Rummy knows where bodies are buried would be a safe bet.

And welcome to the DU :hi:

7. Thanks !
Thank you for all the great welcomes. I can see DU quickly becoming my oasis from all the insanity. I have visited here many times usually to read the top 10 conservative idiots and the Late Breaking News. Being a part of the forum is nice and I see how it can become addictive. Everyone here seems so well informed. Thanks again for the welcome!

You make some interesting points. And the thing is, what with the way the world is these days, damn few speculations are impossible.

8. I've been thinking the same thing. He's such an obvious fall guy.
(*, Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld in the oval office)

Cheney: Look Don, you've done a great job, but we need to release a bit of pressure here, and, you know, this Iraq war and torture stuff makes you the obvious one to step down.

Rumsfeld: Dick, I've got just three words for you - NINE ONE ONE.

Rove: Say no more, Donny babe. Dick's just kidding around here. No way you'd be the fall guy. Ha ha, stupid dick.

Rumsfeld: And I think the president should assure the press that I have his full confidence.

*: I already talked to those bastards twice this year. No way.

Rumsfeld: NINE...

Rove: Consider it done, dude.

10. That's pretty funny
And you know what? What you wrote may have been played out in a very similar way. May look like parody - but damn - I can see it happening pretty close to that! The fact is: the obvious scapegoat is still there. Thanks for a good laugh.

9. It would explain a lot
I think all of the inner circle have more than enough dirt on each other.

If someone need be thrown overboard it would have to be done through the outsourcing of the job. Letting the media know they won't suffer by relentlessly asking tough questions is one way.

12. Good point. Rummy is one scary, Heydrich-like dude
www.thirdreich.net/Heydrich_Bio.html

He knows A LOT! And if I am not mistaken, Henry Kissinger long ago said, "Donald Rumsfeld is the most ruthless man I know."

Now, THAT'S SCARY!

Bunch of crazy fucking monsters we got up there. If they don't kill us all themselves, they are setting the stage for the Near Future of the next few decades.
