Booker School video was on Aron Brown Thurs night I plotzed.

(Apologies if this has been discussed already. I used the search function, honest!)

Anyway, there was the video so many of us know by heart. Right there on national television!
The part where Handy Andy Card whispers to aWol that "the second tower has been hit; America is under attack" (which seems unlikely due to the brevity of lip-to ear time)
I done 'bout fell outta my chair (unlike aWol who just kept sitting there)

It was a nice, clean copy of the tape, too. Glad to know it is out there.
So SOMEONE in Big Media has it, has seen it and interprets it the we all have.

Hope one day soon they'll run the splitscreen video (next to the Towers footage) that our fellow DU'er made.

edited for idiotic typing

1. First time I saw that clip
I was frozen... horrified by the potential implications...

By now - I have seen it and it has lost the impact upon me. However, millions are just seeing it for the first time - and many will have that same, haunting, first reaction.

3. It's already being spun

"Told America was under attack, ... Bush decided he needed to project strength and calm and not bolt from a Florida classroom where he was reading to children as crisis and confusion began to spread on Sept. 11, 2001, an independent commission said Thursday."

How did Aaron Brown spin it?

4. Seeing it on TV was so cool. Like a vote of confidence.

Like it REALLY exists, not just in our imaginary , fevered, internet land.

5. the tape PROVES that * decided NOTHING
he says NOTHING to Card. and, for *some* reason, Card doesn't appear to EXPECT a reaction from the insipid chimp...

did he really whisper: Mission Accomplished

6. So, he should endanger children instead?
Wouldn't a real leader have gotten up, excused himself (i.e., "Excuse me children, but I was just told of a situation that requires the attention of the President. I will be back as soon as I can.") and attended to the situation, started issuing orders, etc.

7. That explanation doesn't work
The audience has no idea anything has happened. He is displaying strength and calmness to a bunch of unaware grade schoolers.

17. Exactly
You're right -- if the news HAD come out, and people were reacting to it, a simian pretending to be calm and strong WOULD have been a nice thing, but as you say -- what's the point "acting resolute" when NO ONE knows you have something to be resolute about?

I'm not even president, but I could have pulled off looking calm and resolute AND politely taking leave of the children in order to go do my fucking job as Commander in Chief. I bet you could have too. Spinning sitting there looking dazed for ten minutes as an example of his magnificent manhood and leadership just doesn't cut it. Obviously, this explanation was added later....

Okay -- maybe they didn't have much info, and maybe his staff was in a frenzy making preparations to get him out of there and find a way to respond to the events -- but that all is not incompatible with His Chimperial Highness getting off his duff and doing his Prez thing.

He sat there because he didn't know what to do.

He was caught off guard (maybe....)

But weren't we ALL caught off our fucking guard that day? But I went into action and information mode immediately -- I bet a lot of us did.

Especially in light of 1)concern in Genoa of airplanes used as missiles 2) warnings throughout 2001, however "unspecific" as they try to convince us they were (although many of us would disagree) -- HOW he could have sat there like a boob during an unfolding national emergency is unthinkable.

But they had to get this spin out before the masses who see Mike Moore's F911 film draw their own conclusion about how to interpret the lapse of action in the schoolroom.

There they go again -- "Who do you believe, me, or your own eyes?"

16. Why did he abandon that thought process?
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 12:34 PM by Bandit
He spent two days flying around America from one hiding spot to another. Did he feel that was demonstrating strength and calm? He was in a Panic and in total Flee mode. Strength and Calm indeed.

18. That Would Have Been Great PR Except for One Thing -
The Bush administration NEVER tried to utilize the footage for that purpose.

It's not exactly their ace in the hole. They knew it then, they know it now.

8. Regarding "Lip to ear" time...
and how short you say it was...

Maybe Card, simply said, "It happened."

9. He sat there for 10 minutes knowing the US was under terrorist attack.
Then he gave a press conference there 30 minutes into a clear attack.

He was at a scheduled and pre-publicized photo just 5 miles from an airport.

He endangered all those kids' lives by not getting out of there immediately and DOING HIS FUCKING JOB.

19. and he kept those kids as a backdrop for his emergency announcement
For all he knew, they could have been in danger, if he was a point of attack. Not to mention scaring them with all his talk of planes crashing into buildings.

And he could have quietly slipped out of the classroom between reading drills, if he really wanted to leave without alarming them.

20. he's been a parent ...
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 05:03 PM by Lisa
Every parent I know can figure out how to exit a room without scaring the kids ...

p.s. some friends of mine actually tested this at a kids' birthday party a while back. The winner was the guy who said, "excuse me but I have to go pee". The kids thought that was the greatest.

12. As "Old in the Way" once pointed out...if * didn't know...he had no way of
Knowing the extent of this "attack" on America - and would have instinctively feared the worst - that 10 or more planes were attacking multiple cities, and rockets are being launched, and so on and so on... But nooooo...Chimp "somehow" knows that this is limited and that he need do nothing - and that he is in no danger.

This is solid proof that Bush knew what was happening - and what going to happen.

:puke:

13. Plus the Secret Service didn't hustle him into safety
like they did to Cheney 'by the armpits' into the bunker. This photo op of the Chimp that day was well publicized in advance. Draw your own conclusions. Are you reading this Agent Mike?

21. He was thinking..."Oh boy! Now I can attack Iraq and
be a War President and boost my falling ratings like Poppy did and get Emron news off my back. God is watching out for me!
God Bless me! What the hell am I going to say while waiting for my speech writers to tell me what to say? I wonder is Cheney knows what to do? Now where can I hide"?
