WHERE IS KERRY? No public events today?!?
C'mon Senator, you just took a full WEEK away from campaigning and you have NO public events today?!?

Was the same a few days ago when I checked.

Kerry can't sit back and let the media do to him what they did to Dean.

I smell it coming...RIGHT NOW.

Anyone else agree?

12. Exactly what "shit:" will be hitting the fan?
Try not to be so cryptic.

4. I'm not saying he's lazy...I'm saying the public needs to SEE him
a 15 second snippet on the local/national news is important after a WEEK completely OUT of the spotlight.

Bush is getting his Reagan bounce in the polls.

I just think he needs to be out there and this is the 2nd FULL day I've seen (may have been others) since the week off for Reagan that he's had NO public events.

I think this is a critical time before the convention starts and the Olympics puts the campaign on hold, media-wise....

10. Absolutely, but I'm sure there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work to do...
... you know, a lot of time on the phone having talks and making deals. Running a business, basically.

I wouldn't be too worried about the Reagan bounce. Very little of it will still be around in November. Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Besides, many, many voters don't make up their minds until just before Election Day, if not right there in the booth. It is better that he takes days off from public events now instead of September or October.

18. The 'Reagan Bounce'
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&u=/ap/20040617/ap_on_el_pr/campaign_poll_2&printer=1

Not surprising. Approval went up from 44% to 48%. Does not really take into account the 9/11 commision and the Reagan hangover.

This bump in the polls was expected. But now Bush has to contend with Kerry's VP announcement, the DNC Convention, Clinton's media blitz, and the F9/11 movie. This could chip away at his popularity.

July may be an ugly month for the GOP.

8. Bush just BOUNCED in the polls
6 points.

While WE at DU see him combusting, we don't have the normal 6 months it takes for Joe Sheeple to see things as we do.

When December comes around and these people wake up and realize Bush* is a liar and a criminal (as we do), it will be too late.

Letting Bush doom himself will NOT win it for the Dems this year.

People need an inspirational leader to come out and vote for. You KNOW the repugs are going to be out in force, they have an election day strategy based on "grass-roots" and have HUGE dollars just for that effort.

From this article February LA TIMES article:

http://www.detnews.com/2004/politics/0402/02/a04-52607.htm

"In their preparations, Republican strategists enjoy the luxury of an incumbent president, as well as a record-breaking war chest that might top $200 million. They plan to use those advantages to deliver a one-two punch in November: massive television advertising in swing states, and a huge “ground war” to register Republican voters and get them to the polls."

My point is we CAN'T fall asleep at the wheel thinking that KEY voters will go to F911 and walk out converted. We've got to realize that this is a BATTLE for the future of our country.

It's less than 5 months to election day. I don't want my candidate having no public events for multiple days after being off the campaign for 7 full days.

C'mon Kerry, be AGGRESSIVE!

11. Thankyou!
I am getting really sick and tired of the naysayers. We have a few more threads today - one about what would you do about a Kerry/Gep ticket. I'd vote for a Kerry/Dean ticket - there I've said it!

WTF is wrong with people? Oh, and one more - whose fault would it be if Kerry lost? DAH?

13. Just going by what's ON HIS WEBSITE!!!!
Look for yourself.

http://www.johnkerry.com/events/

"Upcoming Events

John Kerry has no public events scheduled today."

As a visitor to his website TWICE in a week to see what he's up to, I don't think I'm a naysayer to be disappointed to see that TWICE after the Reagan week off.

16. Plenty....
And seen the democrats getting WEAKER and WEAKER.

2002 was a DISASTER......

Same leadership at the DNC. Mistake #1.

I know we can win and think we will. But the GOP is ORGANIZED and have been out there fighting every day since the Reagan week off. They have a plan to get votes on election day and steal the ones they can't get.

It's time to step up. I saw the Kerry healthcare ad on his website and it nearly put me to sleep with it's AWFUL pacing. Long pauses, highlighting his monotone speaking voice. Zzzzzz..

Don't get me wrong, I'm with him 100%...I just want him to WIN.

I'm no political newbie.

they've been winning with a lot of planning, but surprisinly little effort. Even the true believers among them must marvel at the ease of it all. If there's a sea-change coming I certainly don't see it.

19. There is too much at stake for Kerry to blow this campaign
We've been saying for months now, "C'mon John, get out there and CAMPAIGN!" He cannot wait for the media to take notice, he has to MAKE the media take notice.

One reason Gore is not in the WH today is that he ran a crappy campaign. I'm scared to death that Kerry is letting too much time pass. Many of his supporters keep saying things like (a) he's biding his time; (b) he's letting Smirk implode; (c) he knows what's going on; etc. All of that may be true, but he needs to strike while the iron is hot! The public is READY to turn to an alternative to Smirk -- but right now they're not seeing the alternative because he's MIA.

It scares the shit out of me.

...because he is not going to work and still getting paid. Any news is good news though, right?

So far he appears to be running a national race with a New England campaign strategy. Hopefully it will work but I am not holding my breath.

"I thought so."

If Kerry HAS public events today, then it should be reflected on his website.

Either way, taking a shot at me does nothing to help the situation.

But I hope you feel like a big man/woman now.

He only advertises the ones on his website that the public is free to show up to. Today, he was in Virginia and D.C.!

Just because they don't show him on TV, doesn't mean he's not out there working his ASS off.

27. Timing the media maybe.
Kerry might be smart, IMO, to fold the hands he's gotten in the last two weeks: Reagan's death, the G-8 summit. Now Putin's gambit, the beheading, Colin Powell and John McCain, etc., make this a big play week for Bush. The pubbies are trying to capitalize on the momentum for Reagan's death and build on it (the death _and_ the momentum). I don't think these are hands Kerry can win. Bush was dealt aces with Reagan's death, and Putin, Powell, and McCain were always up Rove's sleeve all along.

Next week Fahrenheit 9/11 will turn up the heat on Bush. That's a wild card for Kerry, IMO. I expect the Booker footage to get a lot of airplay, and the Bushies will continue to spin it madly. The danger for Kerry is that the media may ask him (as they did Clark) to disavow Moore.

Bush's last big card comes in on June 30th: the big "sovereignty" turnover. Obviously we are going to get major hoopla and more Bush bump. This whole full court press they are doing now is leading up to it, IMO.

After the turnover, the cards will start to favor Kerry again, I think. Bush will have shot his wad in the aspects of the Iraqi quagmire that he controls. The part he doesn't control, the insurgents, are not going away. Nor are the terrorists whose numbers I fervently believe Bush has increased.

In short, after the pageantry, reality is going to set back in with a vengeance. F911 will probably be playing to packed houses when the sovereignty glow fades (or disappears in disaster). Then we'll see Plame, more abuse pictures, and a card that Kerry has up his sleeve, his VP choice, played.
