Why do we have so many people in countries that hate us ?
Why do we have our noses all around the world? Is there any place we shouldn't be? Or does God give us the right to go wherever we want, whenever we want, no matter what other peoples may think? Is it just a given? Is it our country or their country? Do they have a right to ask us to leave? What responsibility do we have as citizens to protect those other citizens that wish to go to those countries and live and work in such dangerous conditions? Do we have any responsibility for them? Should we send in our troops to protect them and the corporations they work for?

2. Indeed
As the hilarious and wise David Cross says... "Grab a Bible, then we'll talk. It's called manifest destiny. Look it up! It's in the book WE wrote."

3. Because we are an empire.

The US government has never hesitated to spend a $1000 of tax payer money to protect $10 of corporate profit.

11. That's unfair............
America IS NOT the MOST racist nor the most anything. We are a good nation of charitable people who have been taken hostage from time to time by imperialist minded governments.

We are a good people. Charitible, giving, forward thinking. You are one of us like that. I am one. We are not all like your statment.

What we want is: OUR GOOD COUNTRY BACK.

7. Ask the Greeks, the Romans, the Spanish, the French, the...
British, the Dutch, the Germans, the Belgians, the Japanese...

The hunger for empire has been creating misery since the beginning of history. We're just taking our place amongst the oppressors.

12. Yes, kind of like "going through the chairs".
Revenge, fear, religion are the tools used to furthure the cause of the "fools on the hill". It is the inborn nature of the human species to perpetuate the 'survival of the fittest'. The only difference between humans and other animal species is that rarely do we eat the people we kill.

9. the way I see it...
This country is a macrocosmic version of the average citizen, thanks to George Bush. Sanctimonious and hypocritical.

This type of behavior has been documented in Frederic Douglas' autobiography, where he says that the slave owners who most loudly professed their beliefs in God were the ones who treated their slaves the most brutally.

What we are witnessing is a global witch hunt, reminiscent of the Salem Witch debacle.

This is a bit more complicated because there is a huge profit incentive, and the American public is being goaded into believing that our current actions are a fight against "evil," a word used to rally fools.

People in other countries, free from the American propoganda machine, are mystified and angered by the willingness of so many Americans to fall in step with this lunacy, and probably don't fully understand how the media has taken over Washington.

The world sees us Americans as we progressives see George Bush: a spoiled rich kid. Regardless of the socioeconomic class each of us belongs to here in America, to the rest of the world, we are the spoiled rich kids.

Sad but true...

10. People go all over the world to work...always have
What responsibility do we have as citizens to protect those other citizens that wish to go to those countries and live and work in such dangerous conditions? Do we have any responsibility for them? Should we send in our troops to protect them and the corporations they work for? ............

No, I don't think we owe any "security" for those that go to foreign lands to work. They go at their own risk.

People come here to live and work without giving up their citizenship, we go elsewhere to work likewise. Our State Dept. warned those people to get out of SA recently.

I don't know "when" nations started hating the US but, like I said, our people and other nationals have been working in other countries since before any of us were born. Nations send and request teachers, dam builders, oil drillers, farmers, Peace corps, doctors, all sorts of personnel to work all over the globe...it's not new. But when things become dangerous, it's those people's responsibility to take the appropriate action to get themselves to safty.

This was posted on DU previously but it's worth a re-post now.

Why They Hate Us
By Mick Youther

I heard a few minutes of Chuck Harder’s radio show, “For the People”, the other day. Chuck was ranting about the Mideast and its peoples’ lack of gratitude for everything we have done for them. By doing this, Chuck was demonstrating two very common American traits—American pride and American ignorance of what our government has really done for the people in the Mideast.

• “ During U.S.-British negotiations over the control of Middle Eastern oil, President Roosevelt sketches out a map of the Middle East and tells the British Ambassador, ‘Persian oil is yours. We share the oil of Iraq and Kuwait. As for Saudi Arabian oil, it's ours.’”-- Revolutionary Worker #1125, Timeline of Empire, 11/4/01

• “How many people know, for example, that Iran had a democratically elected government until the U.S. and British governments engineered a coup to install the tyrannical Shah of Iran in 1953?”-- Harry Browne, Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1996 and 2000, 4/9/04

14. We all live under the shadow of the ugly American, yet
most of us don't believe in the things that our government does in our name that makes us ugly. I truly hate these people and their arrogance and any non-Americans reading this, please know that the majority of us hate what our government does to hurt the people of other nations and yet we seem to be helpless to stop them.
