Re: Johnson - The more we refuse to hear, the more dramatic they will get
Look, people. This isn't rocket science. It happens in our everyday lives and it happens on a grand scale too. People around the world are wanting SOME semblance of self determination and the more we control their economies and interfere, the more they will find ways to ratchet up the brutal consequences to us.

We are turning those who would BRUTALIZE us into heroes to those who resent us.

IF you continue to look at it as the actions of a brutal few meant only to volley political points back and forth among nations, subversive groups and between parties to affect polls...you will continue to miss the real communication...that those MOST oppressed by our foreign policies will find ways to shock and awe us...and those who profit most by those policies will find ways to continue to parry favor from the faithful.

Johnson's murder, as was Berg's, is RIPE with symbolism. Believing there's only a few people brutal enough to do this without considering that our policies and this war are CREATING thousands willing enough to follow suit as they grow up with the violence we have bestowed upon them, or in the case of the Saudi kingdom..actively supported...is probably the biggest error in judgment one can make

5. Yes, Like A 2 Year Old Trying To Get Your Attention
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 02:23 PM by cryingshame
how much pain must we endure before we stop looking at the stick that's hitting us and see the hand that's holding it.

I reared a litter of kittens 2 years ago. We would play all together with a stick... I'd drag it along the floor and wave it above their heads.

Five of the kittens had a great time chasing after the stick.

Then there was Felix. He would go after my hand. He's the one I kept (and his sister). REALLY smart cat.

:D

Sometimes I try to write letters to the editor and wish I could just copy some DU'ers stuff... better written and more concise.

8. HELL yes.
You got it right. 50 years of foreign policy madness has bred a whole generation of psychotics willing to behead innocent people to get their point across.

Just like a teenager - if you don't listen to them, they will resort to drastic behavior to get your attention.

10. I don't know that I would categorize it as a whole generation
of psychotics (that seems to argue for their annihilation)..but it does remind one that no matter which side you are on in this...a tyrant can justify anything...both ours and theirs.

13. They are NOT psychotics
and Johnson's service to the machine oppressing them was NOT "innocent."
The behaviour you describe as "drastic" PALES in comparison to the slaughter U.S. foreign policy has wrought worldwide.

12. that is the part I forgot
That we have a relationship with the royal family of SA, not the people. The poor people are living in extremely bad conditions. Of course there is terrorism fomenting there. And Johnson was fixing blackhawks? In their eyes he was a war profiteer.
I don't excuse the actions of those murderers, but when are we ever going to wake up.

15. If we convince people they have no say in thier destiny.
They will lash out at us any way they can. Its true everywhere in the world, its true domestically. You cant alienate people.
