"Voting" for Aribtron ratings?
Randi just asked listeners to share how people "vote" for (arbitron?) ratings.

Anyone know?

2. People are given "diaries"
where they write down what stations they listen to and at what time for a period of several weeks.

Randi knows this.

Maybe she wants to hear from people participating in it.

3. Randi said she isn't allowed to announce this....
she know how its done but isn't allowed to by FCC rules. You seem to know something about it. You didn't really explain it. Who do talk to so you can keep a diary so you can be involved in ratings. Give us details,if you have any, on how to be involved in the ratings process. I'm not the most articulate person in the world but I think you get what I mean.

4. You get picked at random... your name is taken from mailing lists
..and you're mailed a diary. You can't sign up for it.

And ratings are often skewed when more diaries "fall" among ethnic groups or in areas where lower signal strength stations can't reach.

That is why a station that only has 3000 Watts of power can do well in one ratings period but do poorly in the next one.

The main reason stations repeat the call letters so much and say things like "WLIB - Write it down... WLIB!" is because they are "reminding" diary keepers to write their station down in the diaries.

5. We did it 2 weeks ago. You simply fill in a diary and mail it.
It's just a little booklet that you keep track of your radio programs that you listened to in.
