Ehhh...

7. "An exclusive interview with Ken Starr."
"An exclusive interview with Ken Starr."

Gee, so many news-people wanted to get an interview with Ken Starr this week, that it's a tremdous coup for Tucker Carlson to have snagged this interview (sarcasm).

9. Anybody seeing this?
His opening monologue was a harangue about Bill Moyers and how he intends to put on a very open-minded show. And then he starts off with an interview with Ken Starr and a backhand slap at Clinton.

And he did comb his hair. But he does have Katrina Vanden Heuvel (sp?) on right now.

15. it's not bad, so far
Tucker is keeping after Starr when he gives an ambiguous answer, and he (Carlson) is painting the Big Dog in a very favorable light.

Perhaps this is a Saul-like conversion.

22. he put Starr on the spot
He tried to get Starr to call Clinton a liar (which he did, during the recent unpleasantness) and Starr dodged. That dodge spoke volumes.

Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 10:14 PM by BigDaddyLove
The Tucker Carlson show?

I am speechless and disgusted that you would give air time to that Republican shill.

PBS has always been a refuge from the sewer of corporate media, a place where one can find well thought out opinion and intelligent discourse about the world around us. Sadly, with the introduction of this partisan hack to your programming, these things can no longer be counted on to be true.

If I wanted to get GOP talking points, I could simply tune to CNN, FOX, or MSNBC, where they are regurgitated unquestioned on a daily basis.

I cannot and will not support Thirteen with another dime until I can be certain that I won't have to see that blowdried neanderthal spewing his right-wing propaganda on your airwaves.

Regretfully yours,

Matt ............

19. I hate to say it, but...
...it really wasn't that bad.

Tucker, while being completely wrong and pretty much a pantywaist twit, is interested in discourse. His book, I understand, wasn't another lame screed against the dangers of liberalism, but about his experiences in cable news.

He also put Heuvel and the Bush On The Couch guy on a national stage, both of whom don't otherwise get much airtime. Tucker also called Starr on being almost creepily "sanguine" about Clinton, but of course, not to his face. I guess Starr is practicing his holier-than-thou-ness for all the robots at Pepperdine.

24. Well, I wouldn't go THAT far
Even Tucker, in his opening monologue, hinted that he might not survive on PBS for very long.

But I suppose "very not bad" describes it all right.

23. Puke. I watched it. Don't we have enough of this crap?
O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, et al. PBS must be very worried about its funding. Not even 1/1,000,000 the thoughtful approach taken by Bill Moyers' NOW. And not just because I disagree; Carlson is a lightweight. Horrible stuff on PBS.

25. pretty light weight IMO
Starr, a psychoanalyst selling a book about Bush, a short segment with Katrina Vanden Heuvel (sp?) and some other guy, is that it?

Then NOW came on with 1) ethnic cleansing in the Sudan, 2) a guy talking about the hip hop generation and a disconnect between older and younger blacks, middle class and poor blacks, 3) an expose type segment on casualties in Iraq that aren't reported becuase they aren't "combat related".

I thought Tucker Carlson was OK but lightweight. I get much better political coverage on Washington Week.

Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 10:34 PM by SoCalDem
What a terrible shame that "Now" will be cut to a half hour, and that whiny little rightwing whore gets his own show on PBS.. The world is swimming in rightwing nonsense, and NOW was an oasis in that sea of putrid slime.. Our repayment for loyally supporting NOW, is to be "offered" a shortened version and to have rightwing nonsense shoved at us..

Sorry..but NO THANKS..

NOW should be 45 minute or even 2 hours, since it's really the ONLY show on ANY network that doles out the truth..

And now, we just get less truth and more swill.. What a shame !!!

Note to PBS.. Don't be surprised when your "donor base" shrinks to nothing.. The rightwing nutcases love to "infiltrate-and-destroy" from within.. They did it to NPR, they did it to The League of Women Voters, they tried (and are still trying) to do it to The Sierra Club, and any number of decent organizations.. The rightwingers have nothing but disdain for PBS, so don't be expecting THEM to support you.. The ones who DID support you, will now be leaving you, thanks to your rightward shift.

It happened to CNN, and I guess PBS is next.. CNN had high ratings until they tried to out fox Fox..

Good Luck..

a sad viewer of NOW, and NEVER viewer of your bowtie boy

27. It should be noted
that Tucker's Pop was once top dog at the CPB. Without Daddy's institutional "reforms" and some nepotic heft, I doubt a lightweight like bowtie boy would've ever been considered for a slot in PBS's lineup.

28. Carlson on PBS
I've always kind of liked Tucker. He was great with Bill Press on 'The Spin Room' and he had the guts to admit he was wrong about supporting the war in Iraq. He's got a pretty wicked sense of humor, too. Even though Starr probably would have made me puke, I wish our local affiliate had aired the show. I would have liked the chance to check it out.
