1. Some of the most obnoxious people I've met in my life
are recovering drunks.

3. That's debateable
Not the fact that he's obnoxious, but recovering drunk? I've long suspected he's still hitting the sauce, and watching him over the last month, I'm convinced that if he ever WAS a recovering drunk at all, he's definitely fallen off the wagon.

7. I have thought that from even before the pretzel incident.
His handlers know it too. They just sober him up enough to stumble to a podium for a photo op. Have you ever noticed when he has to be around outsiders like the press for several days when he is traveling around like for the G8 conference, he becomes more animated and speaks in complete sentences, like he's slept off a hangover and is feeling bettter because he has had to lay off the sauce at those times?

4. doesn't 'recovering' imply progress?
I am not an expert, but it seems to me that in order to 'recover' from something, one needs more than temporary abeyance of drunkenness due to only willpower and being surrounded by 'enforcers' all the time. Otherwise, isn't it just "he ain't drunk right now"?

feh.

6. Recovering, you say?! I say that is hardly the case...
If he is anything but drunk, he is on a dry drunk, and wanting it all the time. OK, sorry, I know it isn't my place to take his inventory, but I can't stop on this one. He gives us recovering drunks a bad name!

8. Calling * an obnoxious drunk is offensive.
And I speak as an obnoxious drunk. We wouldn't take him.

9. Substituting booze and drugs with religion is not recovery
As a 12 stepper - AA and other like recovery precesses require humility and a willingness to admit mistakes - GW is incapable of either.
Many reformed addicts substitute sex, exercise, gambling, lying, power trips, etc for the original drug of choice.
An old AA saying is drunks don't have relationships, they take hostages - America is GW's hostage!

10. Nixon, LBJ, Churchill were all major drunks
while they were in office. Bush, I don't know. He might be high on blow.

11. He's not recovered
He simply has been cut off. He has been living on a controlled environment since he entered the political arena. Handlers watch his every action. Those that control him direct his diet.

12. I think he still hits the sauce
The Smoking Gun had a video of what appears to be a drunken Bush at a wedding reception from 1992, several years after he claimed to have stopped drinking. This clip is in Quicktime MOV format, and you can watch it Here.

And there is an AVI of the same Here.
