Russian back up for Bush
Does anyone believe all this crap that Putin is spouting for Bush that Saddam was planning attacks on the US ----I mean how come this all comes up with Bush is in a run for his life---I cant believe that the Russians found links that Saddam was up to no good and the CIA couldn't find anything out----it sounds to me like Bush asked Putin to do him a favor and make up this crap---so as to save his ass in the election------Comments!!!!

1. You know that massive debt Iraq owes Russia?
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 02:57 AM by jpgray
My guess is this has something to do with it. Lots of talk about defaulting that debt, and no way Putin wants to see that happen.

4. One Other Thing to Consider.
The Russians have a large contingent of troops in the Republic of Georgia. After the fall of Sheverdnazdae the new Georgian Gov't. and the United States have been pushing for the Russians to withdraw their troops. The Russians claim they have to stay to protect the ethnic Russians living in those areas.
It's possible that shrub and putin cut a deal where putin claims to have sent intelligence and the shrubbies back off their assertion that Russian troops must get out of the Republic of Georgia.

2. Putin has said two different things
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 02:59 AM by rpannier
In 2002-03, Putin voiced his opposition to the war by stating that Russian intelligence had said there was no threat to the US from Iraq. Now he says something different.
He's lying. Either then or now. But he's lying.

5. This is right up Cheneys alley
Now Cheney has got something to run his mouth about... (sorry crooked mouth )--all week he has been trying to make the connection for Saddam and 9/11...and now Putin has given him the excuse---

I wouldn't at this point believe anything that comes out of the White House---there credibility is shot but most of the jerks in this country are going to eat it right up---watch!!!

7. I believe you're right...
... and especially so since this announcement comes so shortly on the heels of the recent G8 meeting.

Once again, this administration proves that it has no understanding of the collective memory, largely improved by the archives on the web.

Putin is not so stupid as to believe that what he'd said in the past wouldn't be remembered, collectively, by the world. That can only mean that he has been convinced by Bush's people that Americans won't remember what he said.

As for a quid pro quo involved, that may be apparent later, perhaps after Bush is gone.

Remember that Putin was visited last year by the elder Bush, on vacation near the Black Sea. Much was decided then, I think.

12. You are right, I read about Russia warning us that an...
attack was headed our way and we ignored them too. So, some deal has been struck with Russia. Better to keep your eye on Russia than the small countries. Never could figure that out, Russia has their own oil.

9. Do you think Putin, a former KGB chief, is secretly pining...
...for the destruction of the USA by supporting the re-selection the man most likely to destroy the USA from within?

15. G-8
The voices in my head tell me that the spoils of war have been divvied up and Russia and France have signed on in gratitude for their share.
It's also funny how McCain has done an about face and is now whispering sweet nothings in Chimpys ear. The writing may be on the wall folks...

16. Stalin stood up for Hitler -- until Hitler got a little too greedy.
I guess it's the same thing as Putin & * divvy up the spoils of war.

17. Where's the beef

"I can confirm that after the events of September 11, 2001, and up to the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received ... information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the United States and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations," Putin said.

The thing I don't understand is why doesn't Putin back up his claim with some proof?

I could understand if Russian special services were still under cover inside Saddam's regime, he wouldn't want to say anything to blow their cover.

But that's not the case -- none of the official organs of Saddam's regime exist anymore, so there's no reason to hide any details about what they were up to, or how he got that information.

Unless of course Putin made it up. Which would also explain why, even with all the intense GroupThink lead by the Neocons pressuring the rest of the cabinet, Powell still never heard about this alleged evidence.
