Right Wing Media Rant!!

I was thinking about someone who tried to tell me yesterday that CNN was reporting from a left wing liberal standpoint. I felt the need for a rebuttal.

I'd like to point out that every major and non-major news media outlet throughout American history has at best reported on subjects with a slant that is to the right of center. For someone to call the media 'liberal', their point of view must be so radically far far right that from their vantage point they see right of center as liberalism.

This person must be mournful that post 9-11 we were not cattle prodding all middle eastern peoples in this country into gas chambers! That's how far right you would have to be to consider CNN, MSNBC or any of the other major news sources as liberal. Sorry, liberalism has yet to see the light of day in this country.

Newt Gingrich and his 'contract on America' in 1996 de-regulated ownership of media outlets which left these media outlets with little or no responsibility as to the contents of their reporting. If there is some kind of withdrawal on their reporting, it is usually done at 3 a.m. when no one is watching. Everything that is presented, whether it is true or not is presented as FACT, and this sort of muddled reporting has helped to shift the focus.

95% of the reporting done has a definite FAR right wing slant. Tell me this, if not, then why did Clinton get sent up the river for a BJ, but Bush can lie about the reasons we are in a bloody war in Iraq, where our children and their children are dying? Serving, honor, dying...anti-sex, pro-death, pro military, anti-gay...all under the guise of nationalism.

How did the military protect us from 9-11? Surely, not by going into Iraq! If this was a liberal media, every day would be a day that would be reported as day number "?" without finding WMD, Day number "?" without finding Osama Been-forgotten, Day number "?" without finding the anthrax letter bomber. Another day that Bush has failed to secure us etc.

Look at the facts and tell us how Bush has secured our nation. Three million + jobs lost, crumbling infrastructures, states falling apart, our brothers and sisters coming home in body bags, and the spreading of hatred against America throughout the world. Do you feel safer now?

Quit believing the hype and look at the facts, make your own news. All that CNN, FOX, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, etc.. Those news outlets are all the parroting lips of the Bush administration. And they will tell you whatever you want to hear. Sure, everything is fine. It is ALL under control. We are spreading democracy. They will greet us with flowers in Iraq.

They told us all this for 9 months up to and the beginning of the Iraq war. Where are the WMD, when are the soldiers coming home? It has been one bloody LIE after another.

Lies and secrets, like the energy task force papers that Cheney refuses to release. What are they hiding and why are they hiding so much? Why is the American public just so willing to let them do it?

I will tell you why, it sure as hell isn't the liberal media that is making everyone so complacent. If people had the facts which the right wing media is not reporting to you, they would be outraged.

Enough with this liberal media label. There is no such thing. There is no liberal media, there never has been, and from this nation's history, most likely there never will be. The far far radical fringe fascists Nazi right republican, (am I sounding redundant here), have successfully created a boogie-monster where there never was one. That monster is the illusion of a liberal media hiding under the bed.

In conclusion, the purpose of this rant is to spread the word that we as progressives, liberals, whatever you want to call yourself. Need to clarify and shift the focus back to the truth where far right is far right, center is center and left is left and then integrate these TRUTHS into your arguments and debates.

because you are sooo right about everything you wrote. You know darn well that if Clinton lied about the Iraqi threat to our country and wasd asleep at the wheel before 911 we would be in a constitutional crisis, impeachment hearings, special prosecutors, non stop media attention about how bad Clinton is for the country and that he should leave office, etc.... This country would be a mess!

2. Absolute constitutional crisis.

Clinton would have been thrown out on his ear by now. But with this far right corporate media, all I hear is how popular this pResident is. Clinton had better poll numbers than Bush and during his impeachment, I NEVER heard them say that he was a popular President, despite his 67% approval rating after his impeachment.

5. The liberal media does exist, you just have to dig to find it

It's what optimists call "grass roots" and insiders call "small time".

You won't find it on nationally syndicated talk radio, oh goodness no.

You won't find it on cable news channels, which panders blatantly and beyond any rational argument to a conservative white male audience.

You won't find it in the major newspapers (when was the last time a newspaper published a "labor" section to go with the "business" section?)

But it exists.

Films and books by Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky, orbital media outlets like FSTV, internet radio broadcasts from Mike Malloy and the good folks at KBOO, these are proof that there is a pulse on the left. And the fact that entertainment -- TV, movies, music -- moves ever leftward proves beyond a doubt that liberalism is a marketworthy mainstream viewpoint.

We just need to vote consistently.

6. There is no doubt.

That liberalism is market worthy. But obviously the free market does not seem to drive the media outlets. After all, the 2000 election proved that liberals are a majority in this country, yet the media outlets ignored the majority and continues to ignore the majority.

The truth is, that the corporate owned media outlets can make a hell of a lot more money under the table rather than over the table. Crooks like the Republicans let these guys do just that, rob us blind.

We need stronger over sight on our media, something that encourages and expresses the free flow of thought and information. Something that represents the true spectrum of public interest and not just the corporate crooks and their lackeyes.
