Poll question: Has America become a rogue state?
Curious what you all think. Please expand on your answers. Was just reading the piece at the US Newswire site (http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=134-06172004) about the report from Human Rights First group concerning the at least 2 dozen secret detention facilities where the US is holding "suspects" in the war on terror. Some of these facilities are in other countries, some are in the US, and some are apparantly on US Naval ships. Yesterday Rumsefeld admitted that there were at least 2 prisoners that had not been reported to the IRC. We know the * administration has declared that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to terrorists, so we can be pretty certain that the abuses at Abu Ghraib are being duplicated throughout this secretive network of camps. We are flagrantly violating international law, and almost daring anyone to do something about it.

So the question is
Has the US become a rogue state?

4. Yes
That really is the only term for a nation that attacks other nations without provocation. We in the US are continually fed the mantra of "We are better than the rest of the world". This is the result: if we are better than the rest of the world, then we have no ethical responsibility to treat the rest of the world as equals, do we?

7. Broken treaties, broken laws.
Has anyone actually put together a list of the treaties and international laws that this administration has broken? I'm sure it's substantial.

10. Only since about 1900 or so.
Back when dear old Teddy started the US off on the grand imperialist adventure. Cuba, the Philippines, Haiti, South America, on through into the fifties and Iran, then Vietnam, Argentina, Chile, Panama, et cetera...

state.

If we do not punish our war crimes and criminals who commit crimes against humanity - then we are complicit in these crimes and are a rogue nation.

we are not, however, alone.

is anyone sinless?

we may be the worst since nazi Germany and stalin -- but we are approaching that level of despicability

16. There is historical precedent for holding prisoners secretly.
The Nazis had a "Night and Fog" policy of making suspected Resistance Fighters disappear into the "Night and Fog." No one was to be informed about the location of these prisoners, even if they died.

As long as we're holding prisoners secretly.

If John Kerry wins, but doesn't tell the world the location and names of the prisoners being held by the US, to begin the due process of law, that is unethical.
