Evil Will Eat Itself
http://strangegaze.com/strangeblog/page.php?id=3

How the GOP Screwed Itself Over.

In 2000, the GOP and conservative minority in America got its fondest wish. The White House. In 2002, they got a big helping of cream gravy on top of that, in the form of a majority in both houses of Congress. Due to timidity on the part of the opposition party and the mainstream media, almost every little piece of insanity on the right-wing agenda was pushed into law (or at least policy) with little resistance from those charged with protecting America from the grasping arms of corporate fascists. At one point, Bush* enjoyed a 90% approval rating (at no time was this author in that 90%). Bush and the GOP have been fawned over by the mainstream press. The nation was rushed into an illegal, immoral, and profoundly stupid war for which it was in no way adequately prepared, all the while cheered on by the obscene propaganda whores at 19th century FOX (Apologies to Gore Vidal). Human stains of the ilk of Anne Coulter and Sean Hannity have actually been paid money to produce rough-grade toilet paper. The first steps have been taken towards the establishment of a police state, to the melody of obnoxious hooting from morons who claim to want "small government." America has at times seemed to present a face eerily familiar, bearing more than passing resemblance to Germany in the years following the first World War.

So I guess it is natural that a lot of people keep asking me why I have a big smile on my face, why I am upbeat about our future.

The answer is simple, really.

The GOP has overreached its aim. The public really is waking up. I live in Dallas, Texas, not exactly a hotbed of liberalism. I am freaking surrounded by GOP a-holes and conservative minority freaks. But I don't see people waving their flags so high any more. I don't see cars adorned with "Elect Bush*" bumper stickers. And here in Texas, so-called Bush* country, major theaters in every city are playing Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. The current leadership of the conservative minority, in trying to have it all too fast, has engineered its own destruction. Cynics will say that evil always prospers, that only the good die young (to quote both Billy Joel and Iron Maiden), but I see differently. In this generation we will see the conservative minority takes its place in the septic tank of history, side by side with their spiritual brethren in the NAZI party.

Evil never prospers in the long term. The nature of evil is that it turns and gnaws on its own bowels. The smell coming from the right-wing media alone should be enough to convince anyone that they've punctured the colon.

Evil will eat itself.

And then choke on the poisonous contents.

2. Which is why the Bush campaign can do only 1 thing - go negative
With horrible policies and an atrocious record (to understate it) all they can do is put a bad taste in the mouths of the voters when they think about Kerry. And they will try with every weapon in their arsenal. They are ruthless, unscrupulous and evil.

Not that I don't think you're right, but this is a cornered neocon ratpack and I wouldn't turn my back on it for a second.

I hope you are right, and I hope it all happens before they permanently wreck our country. On edit - met a sugar coated repug today at my new job. he had the temerity to say that if bush gets re-elected the establishment I work at will do better. Right chum - I now have a 7.50 per hour job instead of my former 25.00 per hour job... oh yeah - I am soooo better off.

4. another Dallasite....
... who agrees with you. These people seemed to have never heard the maxim "be careful what you ask for, you just might get it".

Surrounding themselves with lockstep idealogues, and listening to only them, it never occured to any of them that they just might be plain wrong.

And wrong they were, on a grand scale - and I agree with you - the bloom is off the rose. The media is no longer afraid to say the truth about Bush*, because the American people are now ready to hear it.

The next few months will be very interesting :)

9. Yeah, but don't think you won't be a side dish at the banquet
There's a world of hurt that'll be caused by these rotters, but as is usually the case in human history, the weak, poor and oddballs will take the brunt of it. I too am fairly optimistic about the long run, although overpopulation driven by idiotic religious beliefs is a real and yet unsolved nightmare. The short term, which includes my paltry life and the precious ones of my children, is another matter, and we may well have some serious horrors to come.

But sleep well, and keep fighting the good fight.
