Taking up residency in another country!!!!
How many of you have thought about leaving the good old USA...Its not the good old USA anymore...it becomes more and more disturbing everyday with each new story that comes out and each coverup...

This is also a touch subject!!!!

Im not exactly an old timer, but have been around a while and even lived in the suburbs of Washington DC...and as a result know somewhat how the system works there...people trapped within their own world inside the beltway----

I dont want to leave, and cant leave(not rich) and beside I love this country, but am very disturbed about how the majority of people are starting to think and feel----

I see what John Edwards was talking about---we are becoming a society of have and have nots----those who work for Walmart and cant afford much and those who flaunt their wealth---those with medical coverage and those at the mercy of emergency wards...

I think of the future, and if George Bush gets reelected--god help this country

My question is, if you had enough money, would you leave and take up residency somewhere else????

2. They are NOT the majority. But they are significant in number, and they
do have all the power right now and their leaders are trying to grab more of it every second.

4. If My Family Sold Our Business/Property We'd Be Millionaires
though we are now working hard to keep things going for not much money.

I have thought of moving just to have a change in perspective... nothing to do with Junior etc.

But it seems curious that quite a few posters are currently starting threads here about leaving the country.

These threads have happened before but please allow me to observe, without making any inferences, that this would be an interesting way to discourage the Left:

There's no difference between Kerry & Junior so even IF Kerry wins, we're doomed.
Let's all move to Costa Rica because Junior's going to win and we're doomed.

5. Yes
but it's getting so that politics follow you no matter where you go. Maybe the rainforest. I saw expats from all over the world in Belize, some living deep within the forest along the Monkey River. I'm not sure where that leaves the political clime in Belize, but I think the bulk of the transplants were just trying to find peace, not to change the country. But, to find peace I would leave.

11. If Chimpy is reSELECTED, I'm outta here 'cause it's FUBAR.
Sorry but that's how I feel...I have New Zealand connections and it's a great place. And I wouldn't wipe my ass on the constitution, the Shrub gang has already soiled it far too much.

17. the cards are stacked against the individual here
and I'm afraid it will take longer than my lifetime (I'm 50) to revive the unions or collectivist movement or community-based governments or whatever gambits/alternatives we're able to scrape together to fight these giants. So I imagine I'll wind up staying here and doing whatever small things I can to live as well as I can given my circumstances, and help along the cause when possible. As some have pointed out, people do continue to live and thrive even in the darkest totalitarianism.

However, my guess is that Shrub has bitten off a little more than he can chew. I don't believe we will accept the yoke he's sneaking up on us. I'm pessimistic, but not surrendered. I keep thinking, certainly even these Jesus freaks must know better!

More pertinently, I can't see that it's better anywhere else. It's a global fist that has us, and the fingers are everywhere. I want to visit someother places someday and find out (notably Amsterdam and New Zealand) for sure.

heat or humidity might be too be a problem for me...

The compromise for me is 6 months down here in Southern NM during the winter, with 6 months in Canada, just over the border in Lethbridge so I can get to the doctor if I have to..

I even looked at real estate via the web.

Depending on the election, I may be up there looking around next spring, just to rent to see if it's viable.

You can stay in Canada for 6 months without a major hassle....

However, if Harper wins, off bets are off! It's hard to get away from the creeping crud these days.

I lived in England about 18 years ago, but I couldn't afford it now and things are so hot there, either. There are other places like Spain and Portugal that seem OK, but the logistics of it all are very daunting to me at my age......

13. I'm moving to Costa Rica next year
from CANADA!!!!

I don't think Canada is far enough away from the US.
I'm thinking bio/radioactive attacks from 'terra-ists', now that we've royally pissed them off. I think of my children too. They both want to go to college in Ireland, my homeland. I hope they stay over there.

Costa Rica is only humid at the coast. 90% of the country is high altitude = hot dry days, mild nights.

18. Yes. Brazil.
But I would still work here as long as I am able, and try to pay off my debts. At least until I got something else going, like selling coffee or something. (on a website w/ office view of the wild ocean) Things I would miss: ease of purchase for latest tech stuff, ease of commodity acquisitions, ready access to most everything 24/7, quick settlement on complaints of products, what else? (hard to think) Things I would enjoy most of new home: clean air, clean water, unspoiled nature, fresh food, cheap food, inexpensive housing. The one thing I definitely must have to help with transition: high speed internet.

money to leave. I don't know where we'd go, though. ANd there are some medical and children's educational issues to keep us grounded in reality here.

20. That's letting the bastards win.
Cutting and running isn't going to change a damn thing. All that does is leave the people without enough money to move to fend for themselves.

There isn't some magical land somewhere that poor people are treated well and the gov't doesn't do bad things from time to time. If you give up on making a difference you let the bastards here win.

Going to some Eastern European country with socialized medicine and good rail service.

Just have to live long enough, and under the goddamn Republicans, that may not be easy.

My wife's parents are Canadian. She recently applied for and received a Canadian passport so if things get bad around here we are headed for the great white north. Hopefully they will let me in as a political refuge.

If I could like well for sure in Canada, I'd probably leave if Duh W was re-elected.

I am nowhere near that wealthy, so I guess I should consider myself a guest-worker in my own country should that happen?

Again, sorry bout that um... rude post mods O8)
