AP: Kerry Took Money From Arrested Figure

WASHINGTON (AP) - John Kerry's campaign collected a maximum $2,000 check from the recently arrested son of South Korea's disgraced former president, and some of its fund-raisers met several times with a South Korean government official who was trying to organize a Korean-American political group.

The Kerry campaign said it did not know about the $2,000 donation from Chun Jae-yong or his background until informed by The Associated Press and has decided to return the money to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

"We are sending the check back," spokesman Michael Meehan said.

South Korean government officials told the AP that a top official in its Los Angeles consulate office returned home last month amid "speculation" he had engaged in Democratic politics, but they do not believe any laws were broken.

I can't get over both the "scandal" and the way they've titled it.

This is so 90's. Why don't we throw in a Buddhist Temple and a Macarena just to make it feel like 1996 again.

10. Not to mention letting polluters write your administration environmental..
policies. Or letting the oil industry write your energy policy.

This story about Kerry is so inconsequential, so fucking trivial, compared to the evil shit that we already know about Bush and campaign contributions and their effect on Adminstration policy.

16. Yes! You have hit the nail right smack on it's little head. Half the
people in this administration should be in prison right now, and the other half may be on their way. This administration makes the Reagans look decent. And Cheney has it way over on Spiro Agnew. And remember Admiral Poindexter, he of Iran/Contra? His little stock market gambling game on terror attacks, etc.? Well, just because it didn't become official government policy doesn't mean it went away, it was simply privatized. The guy who told Chalabi about breaking the Iranian's codes? The traitor (and I don't use the word lightly here) that outed Valerie Plame? Richard Perle on the board of every corrupt business in the world, but I'll just name Holland Corp. here (Lord Black). Cheney and the French investigation over bribery charges in Nigeria. All members of the bush* administration, past and present.

And the repukes are kicking up a fuss over a $2000 donation. That's really bizarre.

17. Oh well
Better from South Korea than North Korea, China or corrupt Indonesia. The contribution was legal, was returned and as long there are no more incidents like this I expect this story to have a shelf life of about 24 hours.

20. Liberal Media My A$$!!
Even with all controls in place, there is no way to prevent such a contribution from getting through. This article does not give a thread of evidence of deliberate wrong doing by a single member ... junior or senior ... in the Kerry staff.

There IS strong evidence that SENIOR members of Cheney's staff were involved in giving the no-bid contract to Halliburton.

There IS strong evidence that SENIOR members of Bush's staff were involved in disclosing the name of CIA agent Valerie Plame.

26. To be HONEST shouldn't that be "Kerry donor recently arrested".....
.....???? So will the AP HYPE the arrest of "Kenny Boy" as "Bush energy policy adviser and campaign maximum donor arrested" when he's formally charged?

Does the AP really think that we're all that stupid? :(
I've got some news for them! :)
