Clinton "60 Minutes" interview thread
In the clip in the beginning, he says Bush should've allowed the U.N. to finish inspections. That's not backing Bush.

I can't bear to watch Bill on '60 Minutes!'
I made it throught the first seven minutes or so, in which time I compared Clinton to bu$h four or five times. My GODDESS, how far have we fallen!

Here's a President, duly ELECTED, who is thoughtful, introspective and smart as a whip. And WHAT are we saddled with now? A stammering stumbling FOOL who couldn't find his ass with both hands and a map!

Bill Clinton can speak at length, WITHOUT NOTES, on just about any subject you care to name. bu$h cannot utter FIVE WORDS without THREE of them being "...um." Clinton turned Poppy's deficits into a surplus--and look how quickly PoppySpawn pissed it away to his rich friends!

Of course, the Lewinsky thing came up within the first five minutes. The Media Borg will NEVER let this go; they will worry it like a chihuahua with a shoestring for ETERNITY. And how much time did L'Affaire Monique actually take up? A couple of months out of EIGHT GODDAM YEARS?!?!

Finally, the question arose in my mind that made me walk away from my Thoughtscreen: how many people DIED when Clinton LIED?

My country deliberately fucked itself. And I'm supposed to "get over it."

:freak:

11. What has this been like, 90 percent devoted to him getting head and lying
about it?

This is rediculous. There has been so much that has happened that he could talk about. Election 2000, 9-11, Election 2002, the democratic primaries, the future of the democratic party.

But no. I suspect Rather gave him a good review so that he could go get a big ratings salacious trash "interview".

63. Yes, that's true, but did you see how he turned it around?
He said that he will always be glad that he hung in there, didn't resign or run away, and BEAT THOSE FUCKING REPUGS when the vote in the Senate failed miserably. Those goddamn repigs tried everything they could to unseat a duly elected president, and HE BEAT THEM.

THAT's what we should spread around.

The repukes LOST.

64. Yes.... this had to get out there. The good news, I think...
is that once this round of garbage interviews is over.... the whole incident has to be "old news" at last and there will be the beginnings of a move to put his Presidency in true perspective.

Those who are about to interject, "but, but, but...:"

What I mean is that this inevitably HAD to happen--the interviews focusing on the big salacious incident. But, now that it has happened, there is no mystique left. Discussions will have to focus on more....both good and bad-- but not exclusively Monica...

42. Bottom Line, Life In America Was Better Under Clinton For Everyone
Better than Reagan's, Bush I's, and Bush II's. It's that damn simple. Only an emotionally and intellectually immature person would think that an extra-marital affair somehow compromises 8 years of peace and record prosperity.

Unfortunately for us, a large percentage of Americans are indeed emotionally and intellectually immature.

Bill Clinton lived the American Dream
by working hard and never forgetting his roots. I thought it was touching when Rather showed the clip of his mother and President Clinton was choked up. There's a man who truly loved his mother and genuinely wanted to enable others who may have come from a background similar to his to have their little piece of the pie. Thank you Bill Clinton.

Clinton will become a legendary figure in US politics. Really.

I appreciated this interview. It reminds me how much I came to like Clinton because he is just so damn likeable.

I really appreciated the Arkansas segments as you can see this is just someone from an average backround who made it to the top, but it didnt really go to his head.

Clinton is a real interesing figure, hes repentent, but not too much. He's damn lucky that Hillary didnt ask for a divorce. Sleeping on the White House couch...well, she couldnt very well throw him out, I guess...

area of Georgia and when we came to visit friends and my hometown, we looked around and were reminded how much we missed the friendly way of life. The caring for another human being. The person who would stop and say, "Need some help". I asked my husband, have we adapted to the rude and non caring folks where we live and he said, I was just thinking the same thing. We moved. We packed up a u-Haul, found a house 365 miles away and we left. That is what we have to do now.
Remember how we were when there was leadership., THEN MOVE BUSH OUT....
We have had our share of problems here, we didn't move to Fantasyland or the Land of Perfect but we really saw the difference and for those who are expecting perfection from any candidate, its not there. If you expect a better way of life.....Vote Kerry.
No one is above falling into adapating to their circumstance. But it can change !

66. <sigh> I smiled through that entire interview.
Bill Clinton makes me SMILE! He's so damn smart! Did you notice how he answered every question without reading from a notecard?! Amazing, wasn't it? The funniest part of the interview was when Rather said "This lady said she was the first person you ever kissed." Bill...."That's her story and she's stickin' to it!" LOL! That was so cute. I miss him so much and am looking forward to ALL of his upcoming interviews! Thanks, Bill! You were a GREAT President!

67. Why was the GOP so intent on bringing him down?
I wonder if Congress had spent more time on important issues like terrorist cells, etc. instead of the bogus Whitewater and Clinton's sex life, maybe the horrible state we're in now could have been avoided.

68. Because he was everything they weren't and more
Because they don't like to share the wealth, play fair,
fair broker in the middle east and because he was a regular kid who made good by working hard instead of stealing it. The just could not believe he was that succesful without taking it from someone else.

at some event. "They felt entitled to the power, I encroached on their Gid given rights" (paraphrase)

73. Ask Sally Quinn
The husband-stealing whore who didn't think the Clintons were the right sort of people for DC.

They worked for their money. They didn't go down on anyone for it.

75. It's a Class Thing
Clinton is uppity Southern trailer trash who had the audacity to make it all the way to the Presidency by force of personality. And worst of all, he's smarter than them. AND he's supported by blacks and women.

And I say this is the best possible way. I admire this man tremendously, but his mere existence rubs too many people's noses in it.

some substance and had a great ending. The media is taking the 24/7 intensity from reaganopalooza and turns it to Clinton. NYT has a poisonous book review ON PAGE ONE! ("boring, long, nothing new, irrelevant - don't buy it - PLEASE! don-t buy it" kinda review)

Didn't see any Moveon, Kerry ad, but also no Citizens United one either.

78. I saw the interview but missed a few scenes because I was
visiting my parents. Does anyone know if this will repeat? As far as my thoughts on Clinton, he sure is missed in my family. And I'm like the other poster that said everytime she seems him on the screen, he makes her smile, it is the same with me. President Clinton is smart, intelligent, charming and caring beyond compare.

81. As I was watching it, all I could think
was how much this was going to piss off the whining
crew on AM radio. They're just going to be screaming
about it tomorrow.

He did good. I recorded it and will watch again to
see what I missed the first time.

83. I wonder if that son of a bitch
Rush Limbaugh will go on the radio tomorrow
and explain to his robotic listeners that Bill Clinton
is far more than a man than he will EVER be
and that he should stop blaming him for everything that's
wrong with his rich, Republican life.

Last time I checked, Mr. Family Values Rush
just divorced his 3rd wife....oh don't get me started!

in the interview. Those parts really started boring me...What else can be said? Unfortunately, Rather dragged that stuff out, instead of maybe focusing the first five minutes on it and leaving it at that.

Either way, I miss him. Sure, I have my differences with some of his policies, but I appreciate him a million times more now that he's gone.

The part that amused me the most was regarding his "I tried smoking it, but honestly couldn't inhale". I thought that was great, and it was great to see him so relaxed about it. I also liked that part about Arafat and Rabin.

88. After the interview, I switched to TNT to watch Salem's Lot - surreal
As soon as the interview was over, I switched over to TNT to watch the new TV miniseries of Salem's Lot. Couldn't help but make a comparison to the blood sucking vampires in the movie and the Bush administration - "Jerusalem's lot is dead, but no one woke on (insert date) and knew that it was dead." After the movie, I went to bed and read Greg Palast's "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy." Don't know which was scarier really.
