Yet another documentary for the DU crow, "The R-Word"
I just went to see a new documentary at a local festival. "The R-Word" (original title: "Right-Wing Hollywood"), by Jesse Moss, explores the current state of the Republican and/or conservative contingent in Hollywood. Moss uses footage from California's recent gubernatorial recall election, plus vintage material (yes, McCarthyism and the Production Code put in appearances), as well as interviews with current figures from the writing, directing and acting fields.

To some at DU who have been following the political scene in Hollywood, there are unlikely to be huge surprises (though I found one, and I'm not unfamiliar with the political divisions), but it might provide food for thought on current state of politics and popular culture.

For what it's worth, I sat near a guy who really put the JERK in "knee-jerk." He could be counted on to laugh audibly virtually any time an identifiably liberal and/or Democratic figure appeared on screen. He also found time to laugh at mentions of the misfortunes of others. However, he also failed to participate in the Q&A session after the film.
