is Air America in a bad way?
I'll admit that the only source I have for thinking that AA's decline is chatter with coworkers, no official links or anything. but i've been getting a general vibe that it is in trouble. is this true? I would be sorely dissapointed if my long awaited alternative to OxyBoy and Hannity phased out after 6 months.

1. I don't like Franken's show much
but Randi rocks!

The network has only been open a few months. Be patient.

28. I didn't like him in the beginning but for some odd reason - I like him
very much now and look forward every morning to listening to him on!

3. well I think they're doomed...
I mean, Jenneane Garofalo stopped being funny in a contemporary way in about 1992. Thus she shouldn't have been given a show. She's just not that funny, and definitely not cutting edge.

They just don't seem to have the hook, at least not for me.

9. What makes you think she is there to be funny?
There is nothing funny about this administration. She is very intelligent and well informed. I learn a lot from her show, and the others. They have put their butts on the line doing this, and I am grateful.

I don't think she was hired to be funny(even though she still is at times). I think she's there to help get bush OUT.

12. Too bad you think that..
because if you're tuning in to listen to Janeane Garafalo tell jokes then you just don't get it.

Janeane Garafalo, as the saying goes, has got her shit together when it comes to analyzing the corporate-capitalist-class struggle society we live in.

If you want a joke to listen to on the radio go listen to Rush, Sean and their callers.

In case you haven't noticed, Air America Radio is a serious, rightwing bullshit repelling operation.

It's about time.

35. she doesn't have to be funny
she's not a clown!

:)

Seriously though, she is a person before she is a comedian. And the show is not supposed to be a comedy show. I think it's great.

5. This week...
I noted that Franken had some of the best broadcasts since he started with Air Am. And the same for Majority Report. I believe that they're all finding their groove. So I guess I can't agree. I've been a fan from the start. But I sensed that something really great was happening this week.

6. Nope. I do get the vibe that the RW is threatened by them and will
spread rumors to try to censor the left. Much like their attempt to block the showing of F911, but it won't work.

Air America is under new management/ownership and the ratings are looooooking gooood!

7. It's Hannity Bullshit
Randi covered this on her show Friday. Hannity was interviewing some fruitcake that said Air America couldn't pay its bills, and some other bs about Randi saying she had more listeners than Rush. In addition, Hannity claimed AA is funded by the Dems and now they're out of money.

Bottom line: It came from Hannity, Randi refuted it, everybody is getting paid, it has funding from all walks (even repukes) and they are doing very well, thank you very much.

Friday's show ..

basically Randi pinned down the facts in saying
AAR is doing better Ratings wise than O'reily's
show did it's first year .

Plus the rating were wildly positve.

20. That's the key...
they don't seem to have any shortage of advertisers

I've noticed they've greatly expanded the range of ads now, and that means only one thing: advertisers know there is an audience. If the ads start to trail off, THEN we'll know there's problems.

15. They're not that bad off... Franken is beating Rush in some markets now
Though I don't have the link to prove it. I'm sure someone can back me up with the evidence.

I'll admit, though, that I haven't been listening much over the past two months. But that's mostly because of my job, which recently has begun requiring me to spend ever increasing amounts of time on the phone. I've tried, but it's hard to listen to your customers and listen to the radio at the same time.

I still wish they'd sign Mike Malloy for a late night show. 11 to 1 or 2 am wouldn't be a bad deal.

29. I wish they would find a time slot for Mike Malloy.
After the Majority Report would be perfect. I was hoping maybe they would now that they are becoming solvent and all. I have a feeling they weren't in a position at the start to really pay him what he deserves.

17. Don't think so, but didja ever notice that
every week or so a new thread pops up on DU to explore how bad off Air America is?

Seems like the negativity started pretty much the day AAR went on the air.

Good thing they just keep getting better and better.

Did you hear Franken doing a sendup of Ken Burns' "The Civil War" the other day before his "Bleeding Ohio" schtick?

it was wonderful and brought a big smile to my face. :)

23. thank you jane austin.......
it would seem that there are those among us who want nothing more than for this venture to fail, whatever their reasons may be. some are upset that they or their favorite on-air personality wasn't offered a slot.

there was a vicious thread here a couple of months ago, offered up by someone whom i had respected a great deal before, and as i still agree with most of what he has to say, i don't listen to his show anymore.

all the speculation about the demise of air america is just wishful thinking on the part of some. like you say, they just keep getting better & better.
