What do Liberals & Conservatives agree on?
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 05:13 AM by Cronus
Let's check it out. I think we, conservatives and liberals, Democrats and Republicans can ALL agree on the following:

1/ Any and all living perpetrators of the WTC attack should be caught and face the full force of the law.

2/ Anyone currently working on another terrorist attack on the US or an attack on anyone in the world should be caught and prevented from exercising their plan.

3/ The western world needs to address the issues of how terrorists are created, supported, funded, and how they operate etc. and we must take concrete steps to diminish all these facets.

That's all I have for now... can you think of any that would be agreed upon by all concerned Americans, regardless of their political affiliations?

1. The anti-Military 60's is over
And regardless of politics, we support the troops.

Also that terrorists cannot be bargained with. Their intent is to murder and strike fear into those that they vow to murder.

7. The 60s were about 'anti-war' not 'anti-military'...
...Conservatives would love to have you believe that the 60s were anti-military...but that's simply not true. WE THE PEOPLE are the military. We were against our government starting unnecessary wars that slaughtered thousands of innocents and Americans.

- Just like today.

10. The Military were extremely un-popular and resented in the 60's
Revisionist Liberals and Conservatives cannot distort that fact.

19. *That's* revisionism.
There's a sociological study of that idea called The Spitting Image that you should read.

11. How many centruries was the peace finally accomplished
between the Ira and the Brits? When was the last time we bargained peace with the Jihadists and won that peace? Are they willing to stop the murders and bombing with the US if we were to completely pull out of the middle east? NO. They consider us infidels from their very core.

And Saudi Arabia and Bahrain want us in their country. We aren't there against their will.

2. Where do you find a real Conservative these days?
I'm not talking about the hate-filled, money-grubbing sort that parades around CALLING itself Conservative...

5. The Military
Large Conservative population and they don't sit around eating caviar wondering how to starve the poor. They are hard working middle class people who beleive in Conservatism.

8. We agree to disagree, here is the truth.
1. We want those responsible to face justice. They want to kill 'em all as putting up a show of justice would cost more money in lawyers' fees.

2. Agreed. But by the same means as above, with They removing as many freedoms as possible. Certain restrictions are warranted, but they are going overboard and completely forgetting about the 2nd amendment too. Very odd for that...

3. We care about addressing the root problems. They want the status quo and exterminate all who oppose them.

12. You're arguing about methods
I was simply trying to find some common ground. Of course, the difference between liberals and conservatives dances around the methods chosen to achieve goals - that's why I didn't include the methods proposed by either side; there is no agreement on that.

However, we simply can't heal America until we know what our common interests and goals are. And the bottom line is that some compromises will have to be made and neither side is happy about that simple, but unavoidable fact.

We need to develop the foundation of a lasting solution to the problems of today, so I ask again, what do conservatives and liberals have in common?

17. The latest Supreme Court decision (You must give ID)
seems to have re-awakened some of the anti-totalitarian sentiments that that (most of) the left and (some of) the right share. Just now listening to one of those local Rush-wannabe's whose first words usually get me to hit the off-button. This decision seems to have pushed some of them off the Kool-Aid. Maybe they'll get some clue that fascism is not really good for them, no matter how bad it is for those they have been taught toe demonize.
