1. You may like the way this looks, but imo this is an attempt by the ACU
to make Kerry look more left than he really is. Ive see other ratings lists that put him in the center of the democratic party. This ACU list is just politics.

8. He better be ashamed, cause if he's tagged with the liberal label
he's gonna lose.

Politicians views evolve; thats why I don't think you should just consider someones 'lifetime' rating - especially when someone has been in the Senate for decades. Kerry is a diff politician than he was...even 10 years ago. And I don't trust Keene and the ACU anyhow, so I don't put a whole lotta stock in their list.

3. how about here...are all these groups just trying to make kerry look lib?
http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=S0421103

seriously people, I dont understand how people decided Kerry wasn't a liberal because he most assuredly is. Frankly I'm glad the label hasn't stuck to him because that label alienates a lot of voters who equate liberal with "bad"

One or two votes a liberal disagrees with does not destroy a legacy of 2 decades worth of progressive positions and votes by Senator Kerry.

Just a snapshot from votesmart (I'm just using the "liberal" ratings here, though many other rankings are applicable, such as the 100% rating from the NAACP or 100% from Planned Parenthood or 0% from teh Christian Coalition)

Liberal

7. I don't think I would trust any political group, left or right, for an
object analysis of a politicians voting record. Ive seen another site similar to VoteSmart that came up with an entirely diff conclusion; they even marked Kerry on a map and he was near the center - they considered him 'Left-Libertarian'. I'm still lookin for it; if I find it I will post a link. In the meantime you can check out post #5 for the other list I was referring to.

4. They had the ratings way before Kerry was even running for president
And as I stated above, they didn't have a list on the site, I had to make the list from clicking on all the different senators.

5. I don't have time to go over all the ACU's methodology.
All I can say is that they have a political agenda and I have never trusted David Keene. Kerry may be liberal according to them, but there are many ways to assess a pols voting record. There's also the fact that politicians change over time, as Kerry most certainly has. I said Ive seen others that put Kerry in the center of the Dem party. Well, I searched and found one the pieces I remembered. There's others, but I don't know where to look for them. It is just for 2003, but it does give a diff perspective - and possibly shows just how much Kerry has 'moderated'. Anyhow HERE:

108 1366 56 WEST VI D BYRD, ROBER 27 365 0.926 1.000
108 15011 71 CALIFOR D BOXER 10 370 0.973 3.000
........
108 14920 3 MASSACH D KERRY, JOHN 2 146 0.986 24.500
.......
108 40103 35 NEBRASK D NELSON, BEN 29 363 0.920 48.000
108 49905 5 RHODE I R CHAFEE 56 377 0.851 49.000

Check out the whole list. You can agree or disagree, just like with the ACU list.

6. I wonder how such a list would look from the ADA..
Americans for Democratic Action.

They are a liberal group who does similar ratings.
