17. Dude, Hawker Hurricanes ROCK!

When I was lurking over the last couple of years, every time I saw a post by you I always wanted to tell you that Hawker Hurricanes ROCK! That was the first fighter plane model I assembled when I was about 8 yrs old. There's lots of other great ones, P47 Thunderbolt, P51 Mustang (with the Rolls of course), P38, etc. I went to the Deutches Museum in Munich where I saw, ME109s, Folker Dri, Junkers, Heinkels, etc... I even got to fly in a Heinkel HE111!

My dad was in the airforce (SAC) and was a navigator in a Globemaster, so I was constantly building model planes for display and the kind that actually fly... not to mention Estes rockets. My great uncle flew with Chuck Yaeger in the X Program. His name was Fred Bretcher (he passed away about a month ago, snif!) and he was the test pilot for the Northrop Flying Wing.

I went and saw 'Wings Over Gillespie', the annual San Diego 'Commemorative Air Force' show. Bought some t-shirts, including the one I'm wearing now, "Naval Aviation" with pics of the Hellcat, Dauntless, Avenger, Corsair and Helldiver... and I'm upset they left out the Wildcat and Devastator.

Dad was Air Farce, and a radio/radar tech, at a training base in Alabama. Worked on T-33's and T-37's.

One last comment...
Rolls engine in a P-51? They used Packard Merlins! Which is a Rolls Royce Merlin built under liscense in the United States... 2000+ horsepower. Mustangs Forever!
