I am glad that Clinton resists being Ophraized

Someone reported here that he got mad at a British reporter who tried to get, again, into his pants. On "60 minutes" he certainly did not like Dan Rather to get too close, either.

The man was a President for eight years. There is a lot that he can tell us. He did talk about his "demons" what else do people want? Just because he wrote his memoirs does not mean that he should start talking about all his personal feelings, and hurt, and shame, and jealousy and what not. Can't we be adults about it?

2. I don't know...I think he kinda IS being "Oprah-ized"

After the beatification/deification of Reagan a few weeks back, I am not digging the humanization of Clinton, because in that light, the contrast is artificially quite stark.

All of this personal shit makes him look so common, and of course it's going to be the dominant topic of any interview.

I believe the main reason he left office more popular than Reagan was that he stayed above the fray, thus showing the witch hunters for what they were. But now when he talks about it, I don't know, there's just something so common about it.

He was an inspirational president. The entrepreneurial, optimistic mood of the nation while he was in office speaks for itself. I just don't see the point in us having to hear about his all-too-human side ( which, btw, is still absolutely no one's fucking business ) for the thousandth time.

He has pre-sold 1.5 million books, The 60 mins. interview had 15 million viewers. His Oprah appearance will probably sell alot more books.
Love him or not,Clinton is big news now.

Don't tell me your'e one of those people who prefers to deify the officeholder, no matter the party affiliation.

Presidents are human beings. They eat, sleep, have sex, and put on their underpants one leg at a time like the rest of us. To ascribe more than that to them is to set yourself up for dissappointment.

I'm talking strictly about job performance. To not look at them in human terms, what they thought they did right, what they thought the could have done better, is only good for the country. And Bill fits right in with that.

He said he wanted people to understand what it's like to be president from reading his book. I hope he succeeds. We'll see.

BTW, he's going on Oprah b/c she has the biggest daytime audience. I don't know perhaps she has the single biggest audience outside of American Idol.

4. I think it's bad to latch onto the Reich's labels: "Oprahized"

I hear many local Reich wingers in Chicago talk about Oprah being soft and willing to make excuses for anybody and anything. I don't think she does, she airs dilemmas and let's people make up their minds.

Now if Bill were Maury Poviched or Jerry Springered, I'd be concerned. But Oprah has a variety of show approaches. Yes, she covers the tragic, but she's usually the first to back off if people get to uncomfortable with questions during interviews.

The bottom line is: what the Reich thinks is bad (ie., Clinton himself) is usually good. That they hate Oprah gives me pause. Oprah may be worth more than we know.
