4. He wants to destroy the school system so his rich buddies
won't have to pay for all the poor kids to go to public school.

It starts with vouchers (also known as tax breaks for rich people to send their kids to the private schools they would have sent them to anyway) and then after vouchers have sucked funding from public schools and public schools officially "fail" then they can kill public education forever. And their taxes will be lower.

That's what it all comes down to. MONEY. LOWER TAXES.

They DESPISE their money being taxed and used to educate everyone else's children.

8. What always amazes me about vouchers...
What well run private school charges only two-thousand dollars a year in tuition?

This is why the Repukes really love vouchers. A tax break for those who can afford to send their kids to decent private school.

Where I live, the private schools cost at least four to five thousand a year in tuition. That's on the cheap side. Some charge ten-thousand dollars a year. Are these schools really going to accept kids who can only afford 25% of their tuition?

9. Exactly
Private schools in my area are $12,000 for religious and $20,000 for secular. If the government gave out $4000 vouchers... who would use them? Only the rich people that would have sent their kids to the school anyway. So, now the school costs them $16K per year instead of $20K. It's not going to give middle class and poor families any better chance to send their kids to private school because it won't even cover half the cost! Meanwhile, all that money the rich people are getting in vouches are NOT going into public schools and the public schools get worse and worse.

Yet another tax break for the rich, is all it is.

14. Even my Limbaugh-loving brother
said, "If they give out $2500 vouchers, the exclusive private schools will raise their tuition $2500 to keep the poor kids out and to rake in extra profit."

6. Look at this quote from his good friend Falwell
"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!"
-- Rev. Jerry Falwell, America Can Be Saved, 1979 pp. 52-53, from Albert J. Menendez and Edd Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom

7. they want theocracy
check out this website: http://www.TheocracyWatch.org/

The Republican party's been hijacked by the religious right, and you are right, their goal is to abolish public education and force everyone to go to private schools; rich folks of course will be able to send their kids to quality private schools. Everyone else will have to rely on religious schools that teach creationism as science...

10. Fundamentalist schools teach
(1) obey authority without question, (2) rote memorization without critical thought, (3) complete acceptance of Biblical accounts of natural phenomena and a disdain of the scientific method and its results, and (4) a linking of God and country as one.

Taliban, anyone?

12. I am a Christian but no way would I send my kids to a
Christian school _unless_ it was of a denomination that I trusted. (Some of tehm do believe in Science. REAL science.)

But my hubby taught in an interdenominational one for years, and it was sickening watching the parents and board members destroy each other.

"WHat?! The kindergarten teacher was raised Catholic? WEll, she can't teach MY kids!"

"The King James 1611 Bible is the only TRUE Bible."

"Cross all the Goosebumps and Harry Potter books off of the bookorders!"

*siiiiigh*

Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet!

15. As Jonathan Kozol said in the PBS series "School":
“The day the conservative voucher advocates tell me that they would like to give every inner city black, Hispanic or poor white kid a $25,000 voucher to go to Exeter, I will become a Republican!”

On top of the vouchers not being adequate, those schools are generally out-of-area, meaning transportation issues. How do those kids get there, exactly?
