How Religious Right is the US going?
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 09:57 AM by wadestock
friendly the following excerpts from influential Christian-reconstructionist R.J. Rushdoony's essay "God's Plan for Victory."

"For anyone to proclaim the absolute Kingship of Christ, and the necessary exercise of dominion by Christians in terms of God’s law, is to declare war on the world and to incur wrath and hostility."

"God has a plan for the conquest of all things by His covenant people."

Here is a link to the entire text:

http://www.chalcedon.edu/images/God%27sPlanforVictory.pdf

Then look at what the liberal watchdog group, The Interfaith Alliance, has among their recent news items:

Washington, June 15--Today, The Interfaith Alliance (TIA), praised a bipartisan Congressional coalition for blocking consideration, with unanimous consent, of a proposed amendment that would have allowed clergy, through their houses of worship, to officially endorse political candidates without immediately losing their tax-exempt status...

Consider what has happened in recent weeks... The Bush campaign has been caught surreptitiously organizing “friendly congregations” as political tools.

http://www.interfaithalliance.org/News/News.cfm?ID=5352&c=37

The Congressional leadership has tried to weaken and alter the long-standing laws separating church and state using Safe Harbor, the Jones Bill and similar language. Consistent attempts have been made to introduce these illegal measures through bills unrelated to religious freedom in both the House and Senate.

· H. R. 235 -- Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act

· Sec. 692 Safe Harbor for Churches, an amendment to (H.R. 4520) the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004.

· H. R. 2931; The Bright-Line Act of 2001; To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to clarify the restrictions on the lobbying and campaign activities of churches.

The use of deceptive bill titles and legislative language should serve as a warning that the religious right and the Congressional leadership will probably continue to manipulate religion, houses of worship, and people of faith to ensure that they stay in power with their radical agenda.

So, it seems to me...

There is some kind of convergence between capitalist agendas and the agenda of the christian reconstructionists. Somehow their political agendas dovetail. Are both eager to overturn core American values in the quest for domination?

Did you watch the Frontline about Bush and how he's been effected by conservative Christian thinking? It's a must-see. If you missed it, you can watch in on their website:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jesus/view/

To see Bush as an oil man is an important part of the equation. But he is also advancing the Christiann-reconstructionist agenda.

The frightening thing is how deeply our nation is embroiled in a cultural war, and how desperate and vulnerable people have become --- how willing they are to respond with irrational thinking. There are millions whose thinking has been influenced by the radical religious right. It's like half of the country has joined some kind of bizarre cult.

Do you see it where you live? Is this also part of a way we can purge ourselves out of the ashes of 911?

2. First of all, please realize...
...that the BushCo agenda has about as much to do with true Christianity as calculus has to do with catnip.

Zero.
Zilch.
Nada.

The "Christian" facade on the BushCo agenda reminds many people, to include certainly myself, of the "Christian" facade on the Third Reich. The whole point here is to steal from the poor and give to the rich, while distracting voters with a pseudo-christian agenda.

"Hey! Lookit those two fags over there getting married! Eeeewww!"

Ask yourself if Jesus would suggest that Dick Cheney needs a $130,000 a year tax cut, while welfare assistance for the poor and elderly is cut.

3. You said it. If Jesus was here He'd be
kicking some serious butt like he did on the money changers in the temple.

Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet!

17. If Jesus was here...
...he would be nailed back on to the cross in a matter of hours, and Rush, Hannity, O'reilly, and Coulter would be leading the pack with a box of 16 penny nails. Bush would be watching, and making fun of Jesus saying "ooh, ooh, father forgive them, ooh, ooh" with that fucking smirk on his face the whole time.

4. You're right
My thinking has been influenced by the radical religious right, leaving me desperate and vulnerable, thinking irrationally. I'm thinking I would like to see them on their way to that great "other place in the sky", leaving us behind to save what's left of this planet.

6. Glad to hear it....
Then there is some hope afterall....

Actually they are doing everything they can to get to that other place in the sky.

It's kind of difficult to explain the psychology going on here with these people. If you've ever seen them congregating and placating each other with their business aspirations and how they get so pumped up thinking they are really in sync with the American dream....you'll be careful to note that the conversations often do take on a religious element sooner or later. It's kind of a core foundation that they rest on that helps them to get past their neurosis.

These people have been going to Church on Sunday and then stabbing people in the back on Monday for decades....but now I'm afraid that it's quite out of hand and reached a national level of contamination.

Pulling off screwball business deals used to be done undercover....kinda tongue in cheek....at least I can remember this going back when I was in my 20s....maybe 30 or so years ago. But now it's front and center....being identified as part of a glorious capitalistic American heritage.... and becoming inextricably part of national policy....as we seek to spread this crap around the globe.

How can these people get up in the morning and look themselves in the mirror and say that they are on some righteous crusade? I think it's a lot to do with the using a warped form of religion as a crutch. Most people sadly do use religion as a crutch....but what we're seeing today is a new movement to use it as an excuse to rationalize dirty business.

It's that whole end of times thing. They really only want Israel to be solid so they can have their little Rapture. It is the only good way they can figure to get rid of us.

12. Although with the current regime, gays would likely be first, no one is
safe, not even fundamentalists. You might be COGIC when the people in charge are Assemblies of God.
Like the "Cheers" episode where Woody and his fiancee find out that they belong to different synods of Lutheranism-"You worship satan!".

All of us at DU would get shipped out for our political beliefs before anyone else, because they'd get all dissent declared as treason. All liberal, fertile women would get "The Handmaid's Tale" treatment.

13. Correct.
Don't caught by surprise when Liberal Internet Kristallnacht or the other things (which cannot be predicted in detail) that are going to happen if the Imperial Family remains in power.

Don't be caught by surprise like a German Jew in 1938.

26. As a Jewish atheist I would point out...

First let me exonerate all those who think of themselves as true Christians because they follow the teachings of Jesus, who himself was NOT a Christian.

Having said that, Christians typically:

Kill people who are not Christian, especially Jews, Muslims, and Pagans.

Deny scientific thought.

Fight among themselves.

Their contribution to history includes:

Hastening the fall of the Roman Empire.

Plunging Europe into the dark ages.

Burning the books of advanced civilizations.

The crusades.

The inquisition.

Persecution of non-mainstream sects.

The holocaust.

Opposing the formation of republican form of government (i.e., the U.S.).

The attempted destruction of modern secular society.

On edit: Making sex dirty. (Christans not alone here. And add deference to Woody Allen line: "It is if you're doing it right.")

And again I mean no offense to those who follow teachings of Jesus, but as a movement this is what Christians do.

8. In the End, Bush will Hurt the Christians much more than they help him.
Bush is using the Christian Coalition thingy(Ralph Reed, et al) to gain power. and vice versa.

By a busted Bush, both sides lose.

Its all on the line, Bush and the Far Right cannot afford to lose.

Hence the fevor, the passion, the committment to win, never mind Bush is doing America good or not, its a matter of Faith, Bush must wun.

But will he? As the pressure mounts we see a dangerous guy willing to say and do anything to stay in power.

Someday Bush will scribble a book with hungry worms in it.

25. What's Scary Is...
If they set up a precedent of a national religion, we become a nation at the whim of whatever religion is subsequently being practiced by successive "elected" leaders. We could be frog-worshippers for four years, Muslims for four years, Wiccans for eight....

And think how "special" Dubya must feel in the presence of those who believe he is like the "Sun King," divinely appointed and annointed to bring all the fundies to a safe, affluent Jesus-land. Yeah, they're nuts, and we'd be nuts to let their agenda be done....

24. The latest from Franklin Graham.......
http://www.sbc.net/redirect.asp?url=http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=18520

....snip....
In an effort to promote evangelism by public school students, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association plans to launch a website where children can complete evangelistic training, Graham said. When a student completes the training, he or she will become "a certified evangelist with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association."

"I want to see at least one child in every class in every public school in America who is trained as a witness for Jesus Christ," Graham said. "Let's not surrender public schools. Let's take them back."
....more at:

http://www.sbc.net/redirect.asp?url=http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=18520

I go to this site every few days to keep track of them. And if you are southern baptist and reading this...you need to pull your head out of your ass and pay attention to what your church leaders are doing.
