Poll question: Is torture EVER acceptable in interrogating terror suspects?

Are there ANY extreme cirumstances where the normal rules should be bent?

1. The way I see it...

..is if Geneva Convention prohibits torture, and we decided to obide by the Geneva Convention rules, we can't amend them as we see fit. Ignoring the fact that toruture is morally wrong, we are setting a precedent, that can be followed by others.

2. Besides the fact of being immoral, it is utterly unreliable as well

You can get someone to tell you that they're the Queen of England if you torture them for long enough. In the end, they'll just tell you what they think you want to hear, so as to relieve them from the torture. Quite often, what they tell you will not be accurate.

I would hate to see that kind of philosophy perpetuate itself.

4. Yes I do have kids and grandkids.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that if your children were being held by terrorists and every conceivable techique had been used to find them only to end in failure, I would resort to whatever means necessary to find the truth and your kids. I find it hard to believe you wouldn't do the same.
