Democrat Shrink Takes Unflattering Look Into Depths of Bush
by Julian Borger in Washington

"I don't spend a lot of time trying to figure me out," George Bush once said. "I'm just not into psychobabble."

The president will not need a shrink, then, to tell him he is unlikely to enjoy Bush on the Couch, a new book by a Washington psychiatrist and Democrat, who tries to explain his subject's quirks and policies by examining his personal history, and comes up with some unflattering conclusions.

Justin Frank, a clinical professor of psychiatry at George Washington University, argues that the president's inclination to see the world in black-and-white, good-versus-evil terms, and his tendency to repeat favorite words and phrases under pressure, are not simply politics as usual, but classic symptoms of untreated alcoholism.

Mr Bush was a heavy drinker from his youth but stopped at 40, becoming a born-again Christian. But Professor Frank, who has never met the president, argues he never treated the underlying cause of his alcohol dependence.

1. "Bush switched from alcoholism to religion. . . .
It takes responsibility out of his hands. Being born again is a way of denying the past."
I found that observation very insightful of too many people who use religion as an excuse to abicate all personal responsibity.

2. It is just trading one addiction for another...
At least he'd only be a danger to himself and anybody on the road he was driving near if he'd stayed an alcoholic. As a Jesus addict, he is a danger to everyone.

3. What?
This is the first time I heard that W's parents did not hold a funeral for their daughter who died of leukemia. Is that normal? If my child died, I would want to hold some kind of memorial or service. What kind of parents were they?

5. Let's not blow this out of proportion for likely all at stake is life in
the Western world as we have known it and seemingly most Americuns don't give a rat's ass about life and death in the rest of the world.

6. The prescription is the best part, lol
quoted from article:

Prof Frank's prescription is for Mr Bush to join an Alcoholics Anonymous program - and for him to be relieved of his high-pressure job.
