(from the archives) DU Exclusive: antigay amendment will not pass Senate
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 05:14 PM by arcos
Now that the GOP has scheduled a vote on the discrimination amendment, I thought it was a good idea to resurrect this topic from February, in case any Senator wants to flip-flop on the issue. According to DUers research, at least 43 Senators are against the FMA, and a majority is still possible.

4. They need a 2/3rds majority, not just any majority...
to pass the FMA, it still will fail if 43 senators do not vote for it.

It will be a straight party vote for the Republicans. Plus, a few defectors from the Democrats..Zell Miller, of course, will vote for it. Plus Robert Byrd and Ernest Hollings.

7. I don't think they have the votes...
they would need a straight GOP line, plus about 15 Democratic defectors... Miller, Byrd and Hollings aren't enough...
