Head lopping: Never happened before Bu$h
Bu$h has pushed the world over the brink. Head lopping is an extreme reaction to the extreme war the Bu$h regime is waging on the Islamic world. It is here to stay. It works in that it gets press. It is Bu$h's little baby. Rock it in the cradle monkey-fool!

2. I am sure you mean
that we never saw hostages beheaded, right?

Saudi Arabia, for instance, beheaded 53 people last year for various crimes. Several countries still use it as an execution method.

I was annoyed today to hear Wolf Blitzer call it an ancient method, as if it never is used today.

9. True. It was the way he presented it (with much breathlessness)
and suspense. He was using that leading voice that assures the viewers that something new and horrible is taking place, if you know what I mean.

3. Sorry. Can't blame this on DumbButt.

Head lopping is a sport in Saudi Arabia. Nothing new.

They even have a place for it called Chop Chop Square.

4. Exactly.
Now, the fact that the "head lopping" has been targeted at non-Muslims is an indication of just how much safer (sic) we are because of the Iraqi invasion.

American contractors. That is new.

16. That is state-sanctioned head-lopping
Saudi Arabia is where we should be at war in the "war against terra," in the first place. Why-oh-why, are the Saudi mo-fo's getting a pass on 9/11? The answer is in the Bu$h and Carlysle bosom. We are fucked, my friend.

5. Why is head lopping uncivilized but beating people to death is OK?
There are tons of stories of Iraqi and Afghanistan civilians being beaten to death. Not a peep about them. At least head lopping is quick.

6. dude, you can't really be that naive....
Saudi Arabia beheaded 52 people last year. Beheading has been an official state execution method in many countries for centuries. Bush just pissed people off to the point where they began applying traditional execution techniques, which incidentally have high shock values, to western captives and their collaborators.

17. I think Mac's point went 10,000 feet over your head...
I don't recall ANY cases of Westerners (or S. Koreans) ever being beheaded in an Arab country the last 40 years. Yes, they have applied that 'punishment' to their own criminals from time to time, just as we still frequently inject lethal poison into our own. This is a new phenomenon AFAICT.

8. I Worry That
...after a couple of dozen of these...American's will no longer be horrified....and it will cease to become BIG news. We have short attention spans as a people. If we cease to be horrified by it they may come up with something worse. I think the shock value of this is really causing people who were undecided to rethink this war on terror.

as executions in Texas. Wait a minute, they kill more people in Texas.

14. Beheading in the name of Allah = Wahhabism

Or however Osama's flavor of Islam is spelled.

It's the national religion of Saudi Arabia. It's a radical Islamism.

It reminds me Christian evangelicals in this country, if they had they're way. Lynch 'em, baby!

21. But those Saudi Royals are FOBs
They visit each other in their homes. Why didn't we ever hear of how barbaric beheadings are from the Bush Crime Family before?

Saudi Arabia is one of the most repressive, brutal regimes on the planet and their human rights records are horrible. GW Bush talks about spreading freedon but I have never heard him talk about spreading to his Saudi Royal's Kingdom, have you?

22. No, I don't think it is.

It's only acceptable among RADICAL, FUNDAMENTALIST Muslims who believe all people must accept their FORM of religion or suffer DEATH and eternal hellfire.

Much like RADICAL, FUNDAMENTALIST Christians who more or less, accept the same fate for INFIDELS.

God, I freakin hate fundamentalist religions, in all its ugly forms.

27. Im sorry.
Im not interested in debating the merits of Islam and its members.

Just pointing out that beheading is not a new development in the Middle East/Islam. I suspect that you know that already.

However there are ample resources that discuss the exploits of early Islam/Mohammad, but this is not the thread to discuss it

29. Oh well. Okay then.

I'll let you get away with Muhammed raping little girls, and such.
After all, it's not an uncommon thing, considering, well, the recent unpleasantness in a certain Christian church... I won't name names...

28. Your point is well taken, IMO.
Beheading foreigners is another terroristic weapon now. Suicide bombings spiked (and latched) when Bush dropped America's policy of balanced brokerage in the I/P situation. Beheadings are starting to become a frequent occurrence in the news now.

To those who argue that this has been around a long time, that's not the point. So has rabies. But if it suddenly started showing up in American humans on a semi-weekly basis, we would be wondering why. In this case, the "new beheadings" are clearly side effects of Bush's reckless policies. That's kind of hard to deny.

If you put reckless and foolish stress on a system, it will spring leaks, many not at the site of the stress. Abu Ghraib, the beheadings, the rash of al Qaeda attacks ... these are all springing from Bush.

31. I must say you wrote an award-winning headline
Head lopping: Never happened before Bush

Headlines like this can take on a life of their own. Send that to progressive media outlets of all types, take out the $ sign as the news media cringes at stuff like that, and -- if I was doing it, as a PR person, I might even be tempted to just send the one-liner without authoring it and without any commentary whatsoever.

Send it to Air America, Pacifica, KPFK radio in Los Angeles, Jon Stewart, Mother Jones, The Nation, you know the bunch. Someone will be happy to steal the quote. Best is by fax.

These opinions are my own individual ones, and represent only my ideas as a private citizen. They do not represent the position of any organization or group
