Chris Hitchens' (now infamous) Moore Article Shredded!
Defending Truth: Slate's Chris Hitchens does a hatchet job on Michael Moore
By Chris Perry

Well, it didn't take long. The partisan hacks were out on Bowling For Columbine within days of its release, and with Fahrenheit 9/11, they're out before the film is even in release. Slate's resident Bush apologist Chris Hitchens did a total kneecap job on Michael Moore yesterday with an article entitled Unfairenheit 9/11: The lies of Michael Moore...

1. I tried to read it earlier today
but it was way too long-winded. And he accuses libs of taking themselves too seriously. jeez! My impression was: these folks must really be scared of the impact of this movie to throw that much vitriol at Moore.

2. Hitchens frustrates me.
He is a bright man and a brilliant writer, but he frequently targets the wrong enemy. Not unlike his current guru, Generalissimo Bush.

3. I read it all, and it REEKED of sick envy...
poor old Chris is just furious that Michael Moore is getting recognition as a genius. Chris is saying, in effect, "But I'm so much smarter. I'm so much prettier! It should be me getting all the attention, not that rumpled old bitch!" Talk about the dog in the manger!

11. My instincts exactly - I don't trust either one of them - both weird, too
And it's beyond me how either one of them has a following at all. Why can't everybody see through them and their unlimited ego needs on parade?

4. Chris Hitchens is a very mean drunk. Probably scared of the BFEE.
Do you think he believes he can buy favor by toadying up to the Little Turd from Crawford? After what happened to Cliff Baxter, Jim Hatfield, and Danny Casolaro, it wouldn't surprise me. Still, Hitch once had a backbone, as he wrote about this FBI memo while employed by The Nation:

To my knowledge, Hitchens has not written about this one, though.

BTW: A hearty welcome to DU, DougieZero! How 'bout that Casey FitzSimmons?

8. Hitchens is a pretentious bore
Edited on Tue Jun-22-04 10:45 PM by chookie
Total poser. Fat, flatulent git. And a mean drunk. A collosal bore.

He's made a career in the US because he can make it as a poser better here -- he's laughable, and worse yet, invisible, in London....

Let's see -- he manages to viciously defame *Mother Teresa* of Calcutta, for fuck's sake!, holding her to the cold light of his "intellect" -- but, uh -- he can't seem to find anything wrong with George W Bush, and instead speaks of him in terms such as "testicular fortitude" and "visionary", etc?

Not an "intellectual", anymore than Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity are "pundits."

And, these days VERY VERY VERY JEALOUS of Michael "I WON THE FUCKING PALME D'OR!" Moore!

Hey Chrish (not a mispelling) --
Mike Moore won the Palme D'Or!
Mike Moore won the Palme D'Or!
Mike Moore won the Palme D'Or!
Mike Moore won the Palme D'Or!
Mike Moore won the Palme D'Or!

10. It would seem that if you have an audacious title like "the lies of.."
for your piece, that perhaps you should actually document a few lies, with research, to support such an audacious title? Hmmm?

12. Yeah, I read it--Hitchens is so cocksure he's right. He's still linking
SH and WMD's--this time illegal missiles from N. Korea.

SO . . . we should attack N. Korea, now too?

If these pompous gasbags had to actually fight for what they believe in, we'd be hearing a very different song.

13. I just rented and watched 'Bowling...' - stunning. Better than I hoped for
I only just got around to seeing 'Bowling for Columbine' and it blew me away. I'd already read the detractors who accused Moore of oversimplification and contradictions and was prepared to see loose ends in his movie even though I admire his work.

Instead, I was truly impressed with his presentation of interrelated concepts and the subtlety of human emotion and fears backed up by facts and testimonials.

I can't see F9/11 until next week so I'm recommending 'Bowling' to everyone who hasn't seen it yet. I'm still affected by what I saw in it hours ago.
