15. Put your money where your mouth is Mike
The filmmaker also promises to take to court anyone who maligns the film or damages his reputation. Moore has hired fact-checkers and claims that every word and image in the film is accurate. He has engaged a former Clinton adviser, Chris Lehane, to organize a “war room” to offer an instant response to any attacks from the right wing.

Cry havok and let slip the attorneys of war!

Vanity Fair and Christopher Hitchens will be served in the morning.

:)

2. Man that is a long review to say nothing except that he didn't
like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And he really didn't like the movie. And besides, the movie was biased.

3. As you read it, make a list of the "points" he makes.....
If you can. There's a lot of verbiage to wade through; a machete might help.

One of his objections: Since Moore was against the war, Hitch could not see how he could dedicate the film to our service men & women. How can one answer something like that?

7. Simple.
The war wasn't planned and decided by the troops. They are our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. When the rationale for VietNam faded in the late 60s, the same pro-war,RW politico-pundits began hiding behind the "support the troops" shield. But if supporting the troops meant not questioning the policy, we'd still be mired in SE Asia and American troops would still be fighting and dying in an unwinnable war.

4. But why do you want to waste your time doing this? The film will come
out, be seen and each will make up his or her own mind. There have been lots of good reviews and most folks who want to go will go, if for no other reason than to see what is presented and develop his/her own opinion so that opinion can be added to the mix. Welcome to DU.

6. it seems to me..
..that Hitchens just has a major problem with Moore which prevents him from seeing the forest for the trees, so to speak. Much of the criticism seems to stem form Moore's changing attitude towards Bin Laden. That seems pretty trite to me--before we had a chance to gather the evidence and facts after 9-11 many people felt Bin Laden should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

Hitchens criticism about Moore saying that Iraq never killed an American is harder to defend; but I would point out the it was the regime's goons that were doing the killing, not the Iraqi people.

8. Since none of you have seen it, why don't you treat your coworkers
and go see the movie, and then you can have dinner or coffee and dessert afterwards and discuss it? Let us know how it went.

11. Give them his review of Passion of the Christ
and tell them to shut the fuck up. It's called "Schlock, Yes; Awe, No; Fascism, Probably," and it's also on slate: "The Passion is anti-Semitic in intention and its director anti-Semitic by nature <...>Apparently seeking to curry favor, Gibson announced a few weeks ago that he had cut the scene where a Jewish mob yells for the blood of Jesus to descend on the heads of its children (a scene that occurs in only one of the four contradictory Gospels). Gibson lied. The scene is still there, spoken in Aramaic. Only the English subtitle has been removed. Propagandists in other countries will be able to subtitle it any way they like. This is all of a piece with the general moral squalor of his project."

Or show them the video of Hitchens getting eviscerated at the L.A. festival of Books earlier this year. It's a classic, where he finally runs off the stage to find comfort in the safety of his gin bottle.
