Re Jack Ryan: American public is soooo immature about sex
SEX is the only topic that gets the Murican public as a whole riled up. Everyone gets a vicarious sexual thrill out of talking about, and pontificating about, the sex lives of politicians and celebrities.

Never mind that half of American marriages end in divorce, and god knows how many of the others are fucking around on each other.

But then, perhaps the media is who I should be directing this comment at.

I understand the purpose, from our standpoint, of taking down a Family Values hypocrite like Ryan by whatever means necessary. But in my view, in the end, this will just feed our cultural neuroticism about sex.

Hell, if Jack Ryan and his ex-wife were going to have public sex, I'd want to watch...they're both hot.

P.s. I don't think Abhu Graihb torture scandal would have "legs" if not for the sexual angle of it. People are titillated.

4. Jack Ryan and his ex-wife were going to have public sex, I'd want to watch
Even if you knew she was being emotionally coerced to do it? For me the story was more about how he lied to his party elders and how what he did is tantamount to abuse.

What occurs between consenting adults sexually doesn't concern me. When a man forces his wife to perform sexual acts she does not want to do... that is wrong. When a politician makes assertions to his party elders that are proven wrong, there is a price to pay.

Didn't he try to get her to do this three times? He takes her to these places and just springs it on her (after she had refused before). Sorry, I thinks it smacks of coercion. And THAT is not OK.

was in Paris where he took her to a club and she broke down crying. He told her, allegedly, that her crying wasn't a turn on.

This guy is a real winner.... Illinois GOP are pissed as they had other better candidates who got railroaded to clear way for this handsome up-and-comer. They were misled about what was in those records.

Jack Ryan is a sleazeball to the highest degree. Not because he likes kinky sex, but because he coerced his wife to do something she didn't and has lied about it. ... allegedly.

Face it, she's an actress, so the probability is very high she's a liar. If it was coercion, it's wrong, and he should go down for it. If she was lying in the deposition to make things more "tantalizing" then what they did is none of anyone's business.

You don't think they're natural drama queensthat always go for the dramatic? They like to think they embellish. Fact is, a lie is a lie.

I have a real problem with her public statements about him as opposed to what she said in the deposition. They're contradictory. She's lying in one instance--which one is it?

I know Ryan likes to wax eloquent on how he gave it up to teach in an inner-city school (a private Catholic school, I might add). The career change was a feel-good backdrop for the career he really wants -- politics on the national stage.

He sounds like a control freak.

51. That inner-city teaching thing is nothing but bullshit
Truth is, he donated money to a private prep-school so he could be allowed to teach there (only part-time). He had applied, but was NOT allowed to teach in Chicago public schools because he does not have his teaching credentials and did not test for them. Of course, he didn't have the wherewithal to actually pursue his teaching credentials - too much effort, I guess.

This guy is a lying motherfucker.

Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 03:07 PM by ritc2750
It's about being manipulative and exerting an unhealthy level of control over another human being -- that it involves sex is just titillation.

It's also about the lying. Ryan apparently told the leadership of the Illinois Republican Party that there was nothing embarrassing in the divorce papers. That was a lie of jab-dropping magnitude.

I would hope that the Illinois GOP has the good sense to force him off the ticket.

54. Using His Son as a Shield
Hi,

Exactly....I don't care about the sexual aspect of it (except to momentarily enjoy watching the Illinois GOP squirm), that's their business.

However, I DO have a problem with Ryan hiding behind his son. His pathetic interview on Chicago Tonight on Tues was mind blowing....he hid behind his son and repeatedly said that his ex-wife says he's a good person and a good father.

Jack needs to grow a pair, stop hiding behind his son and please....oh please don't drop out of the race.....I really like the sound of Senator Obama.

Cheers,
Kim

SHE DIDN'T WANT TO. Why do people posting here keep missing that part? If I hear one more disgusting statement about wanting to watch or "if I was fucking her, I'd want everyone to know" I am going to be sure that the left (of which I have always been a proud member) is every bit as idiotic and craven as the right.

She was his wife, not some porn star he picked up for the evening. She is the mother of his son. SHE DIDN'T WANT TO. His taking her there and getting angry at her made her CRY. Does that matter at all to you? Or does wanting to see her get laid trump everything else?

32. But isn't that what you have done?
You are automatically taking Jack's side. I for one prefer to err on the side of the victim. She claimed this has happened and since this isn't a criminal case, I will be inclined to believe her, mainly because it isn't an over the top display of emotion. She never claimed he 'whipped her' 'beat her' she didn't mention any specific sex acts, she didn't go into any pandering details. All she mentioned was his coercion and her crying in Paris.

It reads like a marriage where one partner's fantasies took precedent over the reality of what was happening.

This is not about being a prude or being hung up about sex.

What part of respecting people's wishes do you not understand? If the story is true, he made a unilateral decision - that is controlling behavior.

It's disturbing that some people on this site have missed that entirely. Really disturbing.

But if there are personal issues that might impact an election that the voters should know about, then it's the candidate's responsibility to disclose it. Barak Obama mentioned very early in the campaign that he was involved in drug use years ago. He disclosed that fact in the press...case closed.

It's when you try to put one over with the voters that you get in trouble.
