We've been lied to and betrayed! Election year sellouts!! WTF?
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 08:14 PM by Hornito
Despite the thousands of lies this criminal administration has told the nation (including those fabricated to support their invasion of Iraq), despite a TRILLION DOLLARS in "missing" Pentagon funds, and despite the abuses of the Pentagon brass, and the military, almost two hundred House Democrats voted for a $417 BILLION FUCKING DOLLAR defense bill yesterday! The actual vote was 403 to 17.

They voted to build more missiles, build more ships and submarines, build dozens of more fighter jets (including some that are now obsolete!) and give $9.7 BILLION to Bush for his phony-ass missile defense program!! They even voted to give Bush $1+ BILLION that he doesn't even have to account for!!

WHY IS OUR PARTY GIVING THIS CRIMINAL REGIME STILL MORE MONEY WITH WHICH TO CONTINUE ITS CRIMES? "Because it's an election year?" I CALL BULLSHIT! That's a lame fucking excuse!! It IS NO EXCUSE! It's like voting to give Hitler more money to wage war on the Jews, or build more war machines to invade Europe. What the hell is wrong with our spineless representatives?

Our Congress needs to STAND UP, and not give these bastards one more cent, until there are mass resignations at the Pentagon, the State Department, the NSA, AND the White House. Our party has voted to give these criminals more money with which to fund their fascist regime, and their imperialist plans!

Am I the only one outraged by this? After this election, I am going to do all I can to support a third party, and see the Democratic party is given the retribution it deserves for betraying this nation. By voting to support this crap, they have betrayed each and every one of us. Enough, is enough! After November 2nd, I will no longer be a Democrat, and this after almost 40 years of loyalty. But first things first. Bush must go, but then it will be time to take our country back!

1. Unfortunately
We have to pay for the upkeep of the troops we've sent over into harm's way. Congress is between a rock and a hard place and I don't mean just politically.

7. So when and where do people stand up and do what's right,
instead of what's expedient? It's like they just handed a bank robber the bullets to kill than bank customers with. Where's the morality?

The bigger question, is at what point is enough, enough? What crimes must the Bushies commit before the so-called opposition in Congress, stands up for what is right, and just? It seems to me more all the time, that they're all on the same side (with notable exceptions, of course). Our country is doomed if we don't get some people in D.C. that will actually represent THE PEOPLE!

8. Well, yeah
but what do we do about the 100,000 plus people that we have in combat scenarios if there is no money to fund them? What do they eat? Where do they get medical care? It's not as simple as you make it out to be although I DO share your frustration. We have to get them OUT before we cut off the funding.

11. There's more than enough money in the Pentagon budgets to
fund our people over there until they can be pulled out, that is, if a pull out order is given within the next couple of months or so, which is exactly what should happen. We cannot use the argument that not voting for a bloated and insane Pentagon budget will endanger our troops, because it just isn't so.

2. Yes, you are the only one outraged by this.

This is rather strident objection to a symbolic gesture; the bill would have passed no matter what so the worst thing any Democrat did was to side-step inevitable ads saying "If Jane Smith had her way we wouldn't have an army."

I don't have the roll call here but I'm guessing most of the few NO votes were cast by people from very SAFE and very left-leaning districts.

3. Do you have the link?
Sorry...I have been involved in a time-consuming MS Word project today and missed this vote. I could google it but if you have the link, mind sharing it? Speaking of sharing...I share your outrage if this is true on the face of it. One more reason for me to remain...

5. Agree and disagree.
There is no excuse for this. However, the Republicans wouldn't be able to ram budgets down our throat with a Democratic majority. Their initiatives wouldn't even come up for a vote -- they'd get stuffed in committee.

Voting third party is completely counter-productive.

13. Not sure who the sane ones were yet. Will research the
"Thomas" later this evening to find out, and then send them all "thank you" letters, and perhaps a check to help their re-election.

12. As Dean said, we need to re-build the Dem Party from the ground up. You
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 08:29 PM by KoKo01
aren't the only angry one. You should have seen some of the reaction from folks who were delegates to our State Democratic Party Convention. I was a delegate and I wasn't even as angry as some (mostly because I can vent on DU so I've worked through alot of anger) at what's been going on with our party getting money from the lobbyists, spinless enabling of Bush, voting for the Medicare Prescription Fraud...on and on and on. There are some angry people out there who are INVOLVED in the party.

We should all be angry.

15. Well Koko, after 40 years as a loyal Dem, I am no longer sure
the Party CAN be re-built, ala Dean. It's infected to its core. The DLC and the corporate whores have gutted all morality, from what once was a party of hope and optimism. They have sold their souls, and in the process, sold its members, and the nation, ...out.

I've lost faith. The election can't come soon enough for me, so I can then begin anew to help do whatever its going to take to return our government to THE PEOPLE.
