It gets worse for Bush Ebert & Roeper on Howard Stern slamming Bush!!!
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 09:31 AM by wndycty
They are there to praise F9/11 and they are going off on Bush, the FCC, et al. Yikes! West coasters please tape!

From: http://www.marksfriggin.com/news.htm#thu

-snip-
Richard Roeper has been defending Howard in articles he's been writing lately so Howard brought that up and wondered why he's like one of the only guys defending him. Roeper went off on this Senator Brownback who says that these indecency laws are what the country wants. Roeper doesn't know why he's saying that because he doesn't think that's the case. Ebert talked about how that everyone who voted for that indecency thing was voting against the country and against freedom of speech.
-snip-

They also talked about ''Fahrenheit 9/11'' and why it got an R rating. Ebert said there is some violent stuff in the movie. They talked about how ridiculous the ratings are for movies because every kid has heard every curse word already and they can get on the internet and see the beheadings that are going on out there.

Ebert said he didn't watch the beheadings because it was just too brutal for him. Roeper said he has seen them all so far and he watches them so he knows what's going on out there. That led to the guys talking about what's going on with the FCC, the indecency bill and all of that stuff. Ebert said that it's chilling the way the FCC is going back 3 years to find stuff to fine Howard over. He said that when this indecency bill gets signed into law, he'll have to go off the air because they will start fining him for stuff from 3 years ago and it will bankrupt him and maybe the company he works for.

Ebert was talking about how insane this Senator Brownback sounds talking about how the country wants people like Howard off the air. You'd think that everyone in the country had health care and a job. Howard wondered why every senator but 1 went along with the bill that was just passed the other day. They spent a couple of minutes talking about that before Howard got back to movie discussions.

1. I love Ebert, he's the only movie critic with any
integrity. Everybody else gets paid to say crap like "it's a wild, thrill-a-minute orgy of blood, gore and Cameron Diaz in a bikini! Eight thumbs up!" Pathetic. Personally, I think the backslide of American journalism started in the film critic community. Whores, all.

15. Ebert bought me a beer once...
Twenty years ago, I was a student in London and we saw him go into a pub.

We introduced ourselves and began a chat about why we were there. Ebert knew our instructor over there, a fine man and writer named Clancy Sigal. We chatted for a while, he was a very nice man.

3. Stern allowed Rob Schnieder to call in and attack Ebert . . .
. . .because he did not like Deuce Bigalow. Its pretty funny. . .now back to the interview.

7. That was funny...
... to call Schneider a "b" comedian/actor is a compliment.

I don't always agree with Ebert, but I usually do. It is very rare that he likes a movie and I don't.

He's smart and he's not a whore. What else can you ask for?

11. Eberts more of a "popcorn flick" fan.
While Siskel always tended to be sort the "arthouse snob". I always tended to agree with Siskel, but I like how Ebert can appreciate "fun" even if they are a bit "uncouth" ("Something About Mary", for example.)

17. Let no one question Ebert's views after this. He buried bu$h
Said that America is "one election away from disaster." Ballsy stuff.

I was taken aback by how different his voice sounds, though.
