Poll question: Should Imperial Amerika change it's National Anthem to the Darth Vader
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 01:34 PM by tom_paine
Song from Star Wars.

You know

DUM DUM DUM DUM TEE TUM DUM TEE TUM DUM
(raise an Octave)

DAH DAH DAH DUM DE DUM...DUM DE DUM

DAH DAH DAH, DAH DA DA DA DA DUM DUM, DAH DA DA DA DA DUM DUM

DUM TE TUM DUM TE TUM...

(and so forth...we all know the tune)

Reasons:

#1 We are an Old Republic subverted by Imperials and Evil Men (and women!) in ways so similar to the Star Wars movies that I can only conclude Star Wars retells such an old story so oft repeated in history that it is just our bad luck to see the movie acted out in Real Life by the Busheviks in our sorry lifetimes.

#2 We have the same de facto torture policy as the Empire, although Emperor Palpatine never debased himself by going on Galactic TV to lie his ass off abotu how he deplores torture when he clearly loves every aspect of it, especially the sexual.

No, Palpatine would just point his finger, turn on the Dark Side of the Force, and strangle the impudent Reporters one-by-one where the sat.

#3 While out Imperial Senate isn't disbanded, they are weak and ineffectual and in many ways might just as well be disbanded (that's more of a Caligula or Nero Bush sort of a thing, still in the future, perhaps). They stand where the Imperial Senate of Star Wars stood in Episode II, or perhaps as bad as the yet unsen Episode III.

Shouldn't our Torturing Empire with it's Cowering Subjects and Soviet Media and Tyrannical Heartless Lying Fuhrers have a New Song?

What could be better or more descriptive than the lyrics-less "Darth Vader" Theme? Aren't we an Empire that operates on the belief of

oderint dem meutant (let them hate us so long as they fear us)

So, now the vote...

4. You're welcome
But Imperial Amerika really SHOULD change it's anthem.

We sure are NOT the "Land of the Free" anymore.

How about:

"o'er the Arbeit Macht Frei
and the Home...of the...Slave..."

3. How About The
"Austrian Hymn"?

You may know it better as the music for "Deutschland Uber Alles".

8. Love the sig...
But, shouldn't it be "They Hate England"?

I think the song is "Imperial March" by John Williams.

9. Not my pic, so I can't change it
And I wouldn't want to. I like the rhetorical play on words there, melding our King George with the original.

10. If you are geeky enough to read the current comics from Dark Horse
set in the old republic, you will see even more co-incidences between Star Wars and the US.

11. This poll is awesome!
And yes, the time is right to wake America up with the fact that Reagan's dream came true, we are living in Star Wars. Time to start a Rebel Alliance!

12. Theme music of the NeoCons
I like the idea of using William's piece because it's easy to make lots of references that folks will get immediately.

I'm thinking that theme music should be applied to different sub-groups of the "Dark Side of the Force." How 'bout:

Johann Strauss waltzes for dancing NeoCons.

Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (the ominous sounding part) or perhaps his "Songs and Dances of Death" for Asscraft and his Stazi.

Walter Carlos's "A Clock Work Orange" theme music of a re-vamped Beethoven's 9th for whenever the state run Pravda shows war scenes in Iraq and elsewhere.

Bach's "Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor" for the religious right.

The silly theme music to Laurel and Hardy's movies for Hannity and Colmes.

I was in a hurry to go to class when I read this thread, but I'll think of some more later.
