Did the Carlisle group purchase Loews Theaters this week
I seem to recall this happening this week. Can't remember for sure, and a search of Yahoo News isn't bringing anything up.

Anybody's tinfoil hat properly attuned to this frequency? Let me know!

6. Aaaah, yes. That did it.
Here's a link or two to the story.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/variety/20040621/va_fi_ne/alleged_war_profiteer_is_loews_chain_1

for the popular slightly-aware news

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/altavista/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20040621005546&newsLang=en

for the hardcore business news version and...

for the entertainment business perspective.

None of them mention how many screens Loews is showing f911.

5. Yep, Carlye Group, Bain Capital LLC and Spectrum Equity Investors
Here's an article about it in The Globe and Mail.

Snip:
Onex announced yesterday that it and U.S. partner Oaktree Capital Management LLC have signed a deal to sell 2,200-screen Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp. for $2-billion. The buyer is a consortium of investment firms that includes Bain Capital LLC, Carlyle Group LLC and Spectrum Equity Investors.

8. I've got tickets...
...to see Fahrenheit 9/11 Friday night at the Loews theater on 34th street. So does this mean that the Carlysle Group now has my credit card information and made a profit from the ticket sale?

The mind boggles...

9. Someone should send this to Drudge
I bet he'd put it up.

I don't know what the Carlysle purchase means. Certainly, they can't buy out every theater.
